A wholesome breakfast, a signed homework sheet and warm clothes can help your children start each school day right and can set them off in a positive frame of mind.
But how will you be guaranteed that your child will become an ethical person? How will your boys and girls relate to the laws of justice and morality?
Thats why we're strongly advocating a Moment of Silence each morning, in every classroom across the state of New York. Its a time when kids of all ages can contemplate with their parents guidance about their own contribution as responsible citizens. Unlike organized prayer, this Moment of Silence (already a mandate in 17 states and and a requirement before each session of the New York State Legislature) creates an opportunity for reflection and introspection on a deeply personal level. Its a small thing, but it can make a big difference.

I've been asked to publicize the "Moment of Silence" campaign which was championed by the late Lubavitcher Rebbe (zt"l; zy"`a). This is one of the sites in that campaign.
Personally, I had would prefer that HaShem be publicly acknowledged as the One G-d and that this be incorporated into all curricula in society, but we aren't quite there yet. I'm a little uncomfortable with the subjectivism of this particular approach, but it had the backing of the Rebbe, and it's certainly better than mandated idolatrous prayer.
I urge New York FReepers to take a look at this site.
The pupils will provide their moments of silence on individual basis, whenever asked a question by a teacher.
My father, who is a minister with his Doctorate in Divinity from Pepperdine, always says, "all children are born moral, it takes the public school system to make them Democrats".
Pepperdine, huh? Well, that quote sounds pretty CoC, all right!
Pinging to all NY FReepers.
