Gilchrist seeks control of Minutemen
The Orange County Register ^ | March 21, 2007 | MARTIN WISCKOL

SANTA ANA – An effort by Minuteman Project founder Jim Gilchrist to regain full authority over his group today found a Superior Court judge encouraging the bickering sides to work out their differences.

But Gilchrist of Aliso Viejo called the differences among the leaders of the anti-illegal immigration group "irreconcilable." Judge Randell Wilkinson is expected to rule within a week on whether control should be returned to Gilchrist until a full trial is held.[snip]...

...The three directors said they are still open to reaching an agreement with Gilchrist. But he made it clear such a deal wasn't going to happen, especially since a lawyer for the three has contacted two federal agencies to alert them to possible wrongdoing.

"What has occurred here is irreconcilable," he said. "When you have people who are going to the FBI and the IRS and are trying to have you arrested … and they saying they are your friends?"..........."

Thanks for the ping, Anti-Bubba182. Wondering where, when and how this will end. If Gilchrist is out, what do you think will happen next?

I think Gilchrist is likely to win the court case, if it comes to that. MMP is damaged because of the controversy but it will still be around.

All of the grassroots border groups have a lot of infighting. Why that is I don't know.

Money. Most non-profits don't have enough $$ to bother fighting over. The 'immigration' non-profits have been especially successful at raising funds because many people are hot about the subject.

That could well be, though Gilchrist and Simcox's groups are the ones that actually raised the most money. Many border groups don't have a lot of money.

The level of funds potential for Gilchrist's group may not have reached the Keyes organization spontaneous combustion threshold as quickly as Simcox's did.

Corsi is in the Book part of Gilchrist's activities. I don't
see him mentioned in any of this.

Throw 'em all in jail and let Sheriff Joe sort it out.... my stars, couldn't people just see this coming without a magnifying glass. They had charlatan written all over them from Day One.

Keeping track

Last September, Simcox told The Arizona Republic that he already had started the process of filing for non-profit status, but his spokeswoman said this week that they plan to meet all the filing requirements later this month, adding that delays with the complex paperwork has slowed the process.

In the meantime, Simcox formed a partnership with the non-profit, Herndon, Va.-based Declaration Alliance, headed by conservative Alan Keyes.

Leaders also contracted with Diener & Associates, a consulting firm, to help take the movement to a national level, Hair said, using connections for mass mailings and fund-raising campaigns. MCDC leaders could not say how much Diener, which also has ties to the Declaration Alliance, has made off the partnership. Keyes and the Declaration Alliance have not benefited financially from the partnership, Simcox said.

Meanwhile, Gilchrist, whose recent failed bid for Congress in California was run by Diener, is questioning Simcox's use of the company, saying it was not forthcoming with financial records. Beyond that, he declined to comment except to say, "I fired them the day after my campaign was over."

Diener officials referred comment to Hair, saying she also works with them.
The Arizona Republic

Nah, there's no connection to Keyes in any of this. /sarcasm
