Maybe they all knew him as the cop, boyfriend of the bartender.

Why take a chance on the guy pulling a gun our of his sock and shooting you?

He'll just blame it on his alcohol problem and go to rehab.

In my area; the majority of the police that I know are not as the one's you reference.

Most of the police that I know are active in community groups and charities (Kiwanis, Masons, Knights of Columbus etc), GOD fearing... and oh yeah, they put their arse on the line after Katrina and SAVED lives (along with Federal Troops and National Guard units from many States... made up (ALL) of true American Heroes)! BTW, two of my police friends served in the 82nd Airborne. Both have seen action in defense of freedom.

They did not loot Walmart like the New Orleans Police did. Perhaps Mississippi has a higher caliber of Law Enforcement talent. I am proud to call most "friend". There are a few however... that type exists in every walk of life.

Sorry, not the way I think. Would you still think the same thing if he was raping her?

Because sometimes you just have to do whats right.

Standing by and watching a woman be attacked is pure gutless cowardice. I still wonder if one or both were not cops out drinking with mr. macho.

Besides, if you put the lousy bastard down with the first swing of the barstool to the back of the head, there's little chance he's going to shoot anyone.

If there's any doubt, keep swinging.

"I realize 100 cops is not a large percentage overall in a large police dept like Chicago's, but those having a prior history of bad behavior should be keep on a short rope"

I had a good friend who did psych testing for a large Southeastern city's police force. You would not believe the wackos that get hired.

I gotta hand it to that bartender though. She was in his face before she got hit and even after laying into her like that, she jumped up and got right back in his face again.

What a gal!

He wasn't raping her so the question is irrelevant.

As I said, I am not going to risk getting shot or stabbed over a lover's spat.

They are the most dangerous calls armed police make.

I would use my phone and call 911, but I'm not going to be a dead hero.

Remember...this is Chicago my former hometown.

Consider this senario. Possibly you know this is a cop. You get involved and hit the cop. Luckily there was a camera working and aimed at the incident. And, please don't think this is the first time a cop has done something like and had the whole thing washed away. But, what if you had hit this cop...and other Chicago cops don't like that regardless what another cop does...and the victim subsequently intimidated? Likely you would have been beaten severely by the other cops and thrown into jail on some trumped up charge. You would go through legal hell. No fun living in the city with a past record as a cop beater. On paper you attacked a cop and there may have been no camera or victim willing to back up your story.

Makes you think twice about getting involved...and I consider myself a brave person.

you may not be a dead hero, but you would be no hero, period if you stood by while this woman was pummeled....

but that's okay......most people wouldn't do a thing either..... so you're not unlike the great unwashed masses......Kitty Genovese anyone?

Look at those fricking COWARDS stand there and WATCH!

He has a gun. If you knew that, would you really do more than only yell as he was doing. I agree with you that the proper reaction is to step in. But that could have well gotten you - or me - killed had we been there.

Do we know he had a gun? More importantly did the other guy know?

Read post 77. What's affirmative action (as much as I disagree with it) have to do with cops that believe they're above the law?

Maybe the other patrons knew he was a cop. Tough call on that one. Thankfully there is video, or we'd be hearing about how the barmaid was at fault.
