(AP) "The pet food linked to the deaths of 16 animals has shown no signs of contamination, the manufacturer says, and the company cannot explain why some of the cats and dog that ate it developed acute kidney failure and died."

I hope your cat is OK.
Now, I think this has been going on for a long long time too! Sorry about your dog too.
Thanks. I'm crossing my fingers. The young cat is a lot of fun and now, I'm a little worried.
Um, I've had cats (and dogs)all my life, and I never had a cat that didn't puke occasionally. Hair balls, or the tendency to eat leaves or other vegetation that sticks in their throats.
I've never used processed wet pet food for either dogs or cats and I've never had a vet that recommended the stuff (except maybe the Rx kind that's made for sick animals), but I did have a dog that died of kidney failure; he was a rescue, and Lord only knows what conditions he came from; likely eating out of garbage cans before he was taken to the pound.
The bottom line is that both cats and dogs die of kidney failure every day, and this situation appears to be reaching the hysteria level of fiction over fact.
Is this another Complete Fraud created by the democrat party's hystrionic media?
It sure looks that way....
Seven animals (out of a group of 40 to 50) died after the manufacturer fed them the food.
In Tests Of Food After Complaints, As Many As 1 In 6 Animals Died; Cause Still A Mystery
Menu Foods told the FDA it received the first complaints of kidney failure and deaths among cats and dogs from pet owners on Feb. 20. It began new tests on Feb. 27.
During those tests, the company fed its product to 40 to 50 dogs and cats and seven animals the mix of species was not immediately known died, Sundlof said. The contamination appeared more deadly to cats than to dogs, he said.

I am being observant, not hysterical. But thank you anyway.
That has to hurt even more. You try to do the best for a pet, and it turns out badly.
We had a similar incident. We use Pedigree canned dog food and it wasn't on the recall list. Mostly we buy the "ground" canned food, but yesterday I fed my dogs a can of the "chunky with gravy" canned Pedigree food, and one of the dogs was up all night vomiting.
Makes you wonder, I'm trying to get ahold of the Pedigree people, but their line is swamped, as is the other recall hotline.
Good luck. It takes something like this to bring up the awareness level in us all. If there had not been a notice, I would have treated this as just another little accident. But for now, I'm much more suspicious.
Amen! I got a rescue female (lived five +/- years birthing puppies for pet stores) last year.
Because of the squalid conditions these dogs live in, her teeth were awful and she required extensive dental surgery a month ago. During her recuperation I fed her canned food. If she goes down, they'll be in my sights Big Time!
"Let them eat a few cans and see what happens."
They have been focusing on the wheat-gluten and can`t find anything wrong, but something in the food is killing animals. The food is killing animals the company itself has fed to cats and dogs. They had better expand their search. Went to the grocery store in my town this afternoon. The owner of the the store has`nt removed any cat or dog food products from the shelves. Nothing. And some of the Iam`s cat food on the recall list is still on the shelves. And it`s been 5-6 days now since this story broke. He says he can`t remove anything until he hears from his bosses. It`s an IGA store.
What I find very interesting is that there are so very many pet food brands involved. In reports of this story, I've seen the high-priced brands (Science Diet, Iams, etc.) and I also remember seeing "Ol' Roy", the Wal-Mart based brand as well. Here's my question, if this crap is all coming out of the same vat, why should anyone pay top dollar for the Tiffany brands anymore?
Time to rethink that.
Today it was reported that the company tested it on something like SEVENTY dogs and cats.
One out of six died.
I'm no mathematician, but I'd call just under 17% fatality rate to be statistically significant.
I know that if one out of six people getting into a certain make/model car were guaranteed to die within a day or two of ownership, well, let's just say that "sales might suffer."
Urban myth?
No, I don't think so.
(If it were, WHY would the company have such a mega-list of recalled products on their website, which they continue ADDING products to?)
I don't think we've heard the end of this, not by a long shot. There are too many unanswered questions, such as "WHO is the supplier that was switched to -- and then quickly AWAY from?" And, "Is that supplier's wheat gluten used in OTHER companies' pet food products?"
And, the biggie -- "Is that supplier's wheat gluten used in any HUMAN food products???"
Wheat gluten is a very common additive. And, coincidentally, it is VERY popular in China.
I wonder what country the supplier is located in?
No one seems to be talking. I find the silence deafening.
One lesson I learned was if what your doing is working stick with it even if there are just a few general concerns. He only saw a vet twice before the last time and the only reason I took him was because he lost almost all his teeth over the last couple years but I should have realized it wasn't bothering him while eating.
Seething here: I'm so angry about Science Diet being mad in the same place I want to scream. I have an elderly cat who is fragile already and so help me if I find out this does anything to him.
I went to a feed/pet store that has natural foods and I bought Innova, Natural Balance and Solid Gold. I've done some research on these, but would love any input any of you have on these products.
My Ma had a 9 year old cat that had been in perfect health until Dec. of last year when he developed urinary problems. We took him to the vet and they gave him anti-biotics and put him on Science Diet C/D. The cat bounced back a bit but had bouts with being unable to urinate. Finally a couple of weeks ago he started to pee blood all over her house and vomiting with any intake of food/water. Took him back to the vet and decided to put him down...who knows??
What if this happened at Starbucks?
That is an excellent question. It's kind of like the gas tanker that delivers to a station where the price of the gas is high, and then goes down to the street and delivers to a station where the price of the gas is much lower. Which one makes sense to buy?
