LED bulbs are supposed to be the future anyway, so CFLs may actually be short-lived.
I've never noticed a problem with the brightness. The only place in my house I use a 100 watt bulb is in my shop, snd I haven't had a problem with the 100W equivalent CFL. I've never actually bothered to compare.
It seems to me like the CF bulbs are overrated by about 1 level. A 75 rated matches a 60, a 60 matches a 40, etc.
