This sounds like how my wife disciplines the children.
W: "Go to bed"
C: ignores
W: "Your bedtime is X"
C: "I'm watching a TV show"
W: "You should have been in bed already
C: "The show is over at Y"
W: "You better go to bed as soon as that show is over"
(show ends, 5 minutes pass)
W: "Why aren't you in bed"
C: "Sorry, I'm just wrapping up stuff on the computer"
W: "You should have done that already"
C: "Sorry, I'll be done soon"
W: "Well, you better go to bed as soon as you are done"
C: "uh huh"
(20 minutes later)
W: (to me) "I hate that you let the kids stay up so late"
My assessment of Algore echos that of Paul Newman's assessment of the Charleston Chiefs' owners son in Slap Shot.
Actually, on that point, she is correct. What are you, a wuss? You let your children disobey their mother and you don't enforce the rules? What, do you hate your wife that much that you'd let that happen? I have no respect for a father who acts like that.
