The Transportation Department, in its zeal to award long-term toll road leases to private companies and thus reap multibillion-dollar upfront payments from them, has managed to alienate the North Texas Tollway Authority and the Harris County Toll Road Authority.

And areas that should be solidly republican. The local governments wanted to build 121 through Collin County, which would have resulted in huge savings for the users. The thugs at the state highway department threated to cut off road money to the area unless they could cut their own deal and siphon off money from the Collin County residents to subsidize other projects.

Of course, NTTA's hands aren't exactly clean, either. They wanted the money to subsidize the non-viable project in southwest Fort Worth.

"But Krusee, for much longer than 10 days, has also been fighting the creeping realization among legislators that over the past two sessions, they might have granted Gov. Rick Perry and the Texas Department of Transportation too much power to create toll roads."

slow learner.

Cintra said it could give the state $2.1 billion upfront and $750 million more over 50 years

No wonder these buffoons like this deal. And at the same time they pocket the gas tax money not spent on a public road in the toll roads place. Ripping off the taxpayers both going and coming has never been so profitable.

Here's what Perry is up to today:

He also plans to meet with business interests wanting to build renewable energy projects in Texas and will visit with officials of the Aga Khan Development Network about the building of an Ismaili Muslim Center in Houston.

Founded and guided by His Highness the Aga Khan, the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) brings together a number of development agencies, institutions, and programmes that work primarily in the poorest parts of Asia and Africa. AKDN is a contemporary endeavour of the Ismaili Imamat to realise the social conscience of Islam through institutional action. AKDN agencies conduct their programmes without regard to the faith, origin or gender.
