More Murtha Than Thou [Duncan Hunter's Iraq withdrawal plan]
Opinion Journal (WSJ) political diary ^ | 3/20/07 | Brendan Miniter

Posted on 03/20/2007 2:25:05 PM PDT by M. Thatcher

Last week, with no fanfare, Mr. Hunter unveiled his own plan that his office says will "set the stage for withdrawal of U.S. combat troops from Iraq." In a letter to President Bush, Mr. Hunter calls for rotating Iraqi troops into combat assignments and, once they prove adept at the new role, American forces can leave the country. Mr. Hunter offered his plan after returning from a fact-finding mission to Baghdad, Ramadi and Fallujah. He doesn't give a specific date for withdrawal, but his plan is certainly a sign of waning support among Republicans for the war.

[snip]

As his Iraq plan shows, symbolic attempts at micromanagement are becoming the mandatory way even for ambitious GOPers to distance themselves from the war without seeming to be in favor of defeat.

This is a shameless hit piece that is full of BS! Hunter's only withdrawal plan is complete victory against the Islamo-nazis!

You seem quite happy promoting something you know is a lie

What have I promoted? Your reply is dishonest.
I have highlighted the ugly, defensive illogical zealots that have been given free reign here.

At least my principles are intact.

Good luck with that.

Then you know who to take it up with.

I'm not the complainer type...you?

You should change your tagline to:
Elections without victory is a temporary illusion.

While we're on the subject of the Iraq war I have a question I can't get any Rudy supporters to answer.

Sen. Vitter recently endorsed Rudy and is frequently used as an example of conservative support for Giuliani. Some have even suggested he is a potential running mate.

Vitter has publicly stated that if the surge has not worked by the end of the summer Congress should begin discussing withdrawal and has called the surge the "last chance".

Is that position compatible with the Giuliani campaign?

This is a Hunter thread. I think it'd be rude to start yet another Rudy flame war here. There are plenty of other available threads!

Flame war? All I did was ask a question, but as you wish.

For what it's worth, I think you got the answer you were looking for.

In my nearly 6 years here at FR, I'm hard pressed to find another thread that is as much bull$hit as this. Though with the quality of articles being posted by the Rudy crowd, rest assured, this distinction will not last very long.

"It's a PLAN FOR HOW TO GET THEM ALL TRAINED PROPERLY. You must be a blithering Rudy/MCCain rump boy if you think this stupidly."

I can not argue with you on this at all. Hunter's plan is a strategy to win, and after we win, why would the troops need to stay? It is the best way out of Iraq, by not leaving until Iraqis are trained and ready for us to leave.

This article is nothing but spin.

Duncan Hunter is about the strongest supporter our troops have in Washington. An attack like this on him is an attack on the troops, all for a political agenda.

The win the white house at any cost crowd should be very proud of themselves. If they haven't managed to top the democrats, they've managed to match them.

"Now the Hunter platform has surrender plans to go with big government and protectionism."

Finishing a job is not surrendering.

"I have highlighted the ugly, defensive illogical zealots that have been given free reign here."

Illogical. Let's look further at illogical and see who on this forum is illogical.

I keep reading that Rudy is the only one that can beat Hillary, yet he never polled better than her in the NY Senate race.

I keep hearing that we must support Rudy because he will fight the war on Terror stongly, but he has no real record of fighting the war on terror, except for turning down money from an Arab when tempers were flairing against Arabs.

I keep hearing that Rudy is a conservative although he is for abortion, for taking guns away from honest citizens, for gay unions and he managed to get NY city back to the shape it was in when Ed Koch (Democrat) was mayor. Ed Koch was decent for a Democrat, but all that makes Rudy is a moderate.

I am tired of hearing that I must give up my beliefs to support someone who does not support me.

Oh, and I also hear that Rudy is going to nominate good constructionist judges, but his record is 8 liberals out of 9 nominees.

I can not live with voting for people like this repeatedly. It is time for others to start considering social conservatives and stop trying to convince us that voting for a liberal Republican is somehow better than voting for a liberal Democrat. I am a conservative. I will vote for conservatives.

"Elections without victory is a temporary illusion."

Depends on what we win.

If all we win is an election, we have lost everything.

Chill out. The majority the pings going out to this list would be on BS articles against President Bush.

I certainly have my differences with the guy, but I'm repulsed by the BS articles which show up about him every day. I'll do my best to stay as impartial as possible. Now join the list.
