During his eight days as a part-time high school biology teacher, Kris Helphinstine included Biblical references in material he provided to students and gave a PowerPoint presentation that made links between evolution, Nazi Germany and Planned Parenthood.
That was enough for the Sisters School Board, which fired the teacher Monday night for deviating from the curriculum on the theory of evolution.

Only if there is no more to man than flesh and bone.
Agreed, but do you think government schools fire a teacher every time he strays off topic, or is it only when he mentions Planned Parenthood and its links to the Nazis.
Darwin showed that material causes are a sufficient explanation not only for physical phenomena, as Descartes and Newton had shown, but also for biological phenomena with all their seeming evidence of design and purpose. By coupling undirected, purposeless variation to the blind, uncaring process of natural selection, Darwin made theological or spiritual explanations of the life processes superfluous. Together with Marx's materialistic theory of history and society and Freud's attribution of human behavior to influences over which we have little control, Darwin's theory of evolution was a crucial plank in the platform of mechanism and materialism

Eugenincs, or selective breeding to produce a race of super humans. Survival of the fittest. Selective reproduction of the fittest. Manmade evolutionary changes.
Mmmmmkay! Now be quiet and study!

I didn't say they were fair or even-handed about it. The description of what he was teaching that was the point of contention doesn't seem to match the title.
Was that distinction particularly significant to the context?
The anti oil socialist goons would show Al Gore's political tripe "Inconvenient Truth" in a science class without blinking an eye. Anybody who disagreed would get fired. Politics is constantly mixed in with every kind of public education classes.
That's part of the theory. Only it posulates that above man is this god-like being called The scientist. He serves as a kinbd of oracle of this supposed body of knowledge known as SCIENCE. Of course it is really a body except in ther sense that a swarn of lucusts is a body. A swarm of facts seems to change shape with the winds.
I do believe that a teacher who makes a habit out of going out of his subject to teach his/her own political views should not teach my kids. And to be consistent, I would apply this rule to the rare occasion when the teacher takes it in a conservative direction.
Wonder why Fox and AP trimmed the first part of board member Smith's comment?
"Mr. Helphinstine wasn't teaching good science."

Sorry, but I don't remember that being part of the theory at all. Can you provide a reference for that?
Eugenics or selective breeding has nothing to do with evolution. While breeding for selected traits has had some success in animals, there is really no such thing as "man-made evolutionary changes." And, as to the survival of the fittest, where is Goebels today? In fact, where is that legendary Third Reich? Time now for you to be quiet and to take up study.
What does that have to do with whether the subject of the article was a "he" or a "she"?
Kris Helphinstine is a hero!
God bless him. I hope he's
a FReeper.
"gave a PowerPoint presentation that made links between evolution, Nazi Germany and Planned Parenthood."
LOL! Kook. No business teaching school.
Funny to think of Sanger and other Nazis in the same light as AKC showdogs so imbred they can't be taught to crap outdoors...but man they look pretty.
As far as selective breeding goes, it is a very well documented sucess in the animal husbandry, and horticulture industries.
Der Germans were attempting to breed superior genetic stock. Their failure should be seen as the failure of Darwinism. Does 2 and 2 make 4? Or does it make 22?
I feel sad for you that you failed to see the humor in a thread about school and the SP teacher. It was nothing personal. I dont even know you. Why should I?
Can I refer those who tell me that creationists are not anti-science to you for clarification?

You forgot the Sarcasm Tag.
I agree, the PP/Nazi deniers would have a fit.
