More than 7,000 French Jews have signed a petition asking for political asylum in the United States because of anti-Semitism in France.

Awww... that's quaint.  Guys, are you totally unfamiliar with the concept of "visa-overstay"?

Not sure they are "overstays" yet.

Too soon to tell whether, if they file asylum applications (and each person over 18 has to have one filed for him/herself), they might be adjudicated one by one each on its merits, or there may simply be an order from "on high" saying "no asylum for Jews from France" (see post 106). T

Also, they stop accruing "unlawful presence in the US" from the time the asylum application is filed until it is finally decided (and with 2 levels of appeals, that can take YEARS).

why not Israel?they don't have to prove political oppression to emigrate there-are they worried about being drafted?this sounds like a symbolic request by the way,although it's nice to see those stuck up euro-trash being told the truth about themselves for once-
