Many Jews saw the writing on the wall and attempted to leave Germany. Many such Jews were unable to leave to go the United States because people in the UNITED STATES labeled said Jews as undesirable because they were sterotyped as socialists or communists.
So, yes, refusing entry to Jews to the United States based on unfounded allegations of said Jews being socialaists or communists hits a big nerve and is a repeat of a serious mistake circa 1930 that cost a lot of people their lives.
