Ok This is your chance. Convince me why Fred Thompson would be a good President. I saw him on 2 Law and Order reruns and he makes a great actor. What leadership has he shown? How would he deal with North Korea and Iran? What in his past leads you to believe that he would act in a certain way? What did he do before he was in politics? All I see on the threads is Go Fred without an explanation to us who are uninformed about Fred Thompson.

Well, Fred Thompson is currently a visiting fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. That indicates to me that he understands classical economics, something a big government protectionist like Hunter does not. Thompson is also on the record defending social conservatism, and understands the war on terror.

In short, Thompson is probably as closest to Reagan as we're going to get. I'm skeptical if Thompson can do the mechanics-- fundraising, building the ground team, winning the debates, building political friendships, handling 24/7 attacks from the Clinton War Room and their allies in the War Room. But I'm open-minded and may be surprised.

Giuliani's still my guy for the time being-- he reminds the public of 911, makes a convincing argument to fight the WOT in understandable terms, and will have the widest margin of victory, which will help up take back the Congress. Whether Rudy can make it out of the primaries once the NARAL and anti-gun stuff hits the airwaves remains to be seen.

"Ok This is your chance."

Wow, that really makes me want to answer you.

Despite that, Fred's first government service that I recall (besides Watergate Senate investigator who squared off against Hillary) was in 1977 Thompson took on a Tennessee Parole Board case that ultimately toppled Tennessee Governor Ray Blanton from power on charges of selling pardons.

He was a pretty solid social and fiscal conservative vote throughout his career.

A Freeper favorite act is that Fred, while in the Senate, he was chair of the Committee on Governmental Affairs, which conducted investigations into China's attempts to influence American politics prior to the 1996 elections --- an investigation that uncovered the corruption of one Bill Clinton in this regard.

George W. also picked Fred to guide the nominated John Roberts to the confirmation through the United States Senate, for which we owe Fred an eternal debt of gratitude.
