Even as he convalesces after a severe brain hemorrhage in December, Democrats are holding campaign fundraisers for Sen. Tim Johnson (D-S.D.), and his spokeswoman said his staff and other senators are working hard to make sure his agenda is fulfilled.
...Johnson issued his first public statement this week, and Democrats held three fundraisers for his reelection. A luncheon on Monday was hosted by Sen. Max Baucus (Mont.), and a reception on Tuesday was hosted by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (Nev.) and Sen. Evan Bayh (Ind.). Wednesday night, Reid hosted another fundraiser, where, according to sources who attended the private event, he assured the crowd that Johnson is doing "really well," that his speech is "almost back to normal" and that the senator's popularity in South Dakota is "higher than ever."
Publicly, Republicans are taking a deferential approach to Johnson's illness. "Tim Johnson's well-being continues to be our number one concern in the state of South Dakota," said Rebecca Fisher, communications director for the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

Good for them
I wish Johnson all the best, but this is a case of the Dems doing everything they can to preserve a majority.
I just hope they don't try to wheel him onto the floor for votes.
These people are ALL about power. It's all politics, all the time, no matter what.
The spokeslady for the Republican campaign committee didn't need to comment about Johnson. There is absolutely no reason to at this point. She's helping him maintain those high numbers in South Dakota. Obviously, Johnson shouldn't be attacked right now either, since there's no campaign yet. But gratuitously saying that a Republican organization is concerned about his health is neither credible nor helpful.
And his current agenda is...apple sauce for lunch?
Tasteless, but funny. A nice break from all the piety.

...Johnson issued his first public statement this week.
"grrrrrh!"
"Johnson issued his first public statement this week"
Was it one blink or two ?????
Blink once for immediate pullout, twice for pulling out in two months.
