"BTW: Does anyone remember what happened to Reagan and his administration in 1987 and most of 1988?!"

Funny you should say that, as that is exactly what I was thinking as I was driving down the road, fuming, after listening to 2 mins (no kidding, not more than 2 mins) of Rush today!

LOL!

Watch 200 posters now read the correct spelling and say "oh, never mind".

You know, I keep hoping that W and Cheney are so up to their eyeballs in battle plans to coordinate an attack with Israel on I'm-a-monkey-jihad that they're letting all the domestic partisan stuff blow by like trash in the gutter.

I think you may be onto something. Nothing in his administration's domestic plans, visions or strategies seem to be working, and he doesn't seem to care. He is focused on the war, however.

I have a more than passing belief that he knows we're going to war with Iran, and that when we do - all hell will be unleashed in the US by the Iranian apocalyptic Twelver regime - with massive terrorist attacks using big stuff, like killer viruses.

If he knew that this was to occur, all the politics and domestic fights would seem trivial in comparison. Perhaps he's rolling over just to placate and occupy everybody while he deals with the Big Stuff - and when it comes down - he'll declare martial law and stay in office to administer it.

Other than that, I've run out of excuses for him.

Most Republican/Conservative Federal officeholders are serious, classical, religious, old fashioned men and women.

And I thank them, but their time has passed, and no amount of bashing can change them, it is innate, they don't have it in their personalities.

Ruthless head-banging SOBs are the future.

And it is up to us to find them, and elect them, no one but ourselves can save us.

and proceed to attempt total GOP destruction.

That's pretty much already underway; think not? Take a look at this forum.

Let not your heart be troubled. All it will take is Sen. Thompson getting into the race and then FR as well as the GOP will unite and do what we do best.

I'll also be giving you major credit for noticing Thompson so early, as I admittedly thought your early posts promoting him were stupid and unrealistic. I would LOVE to eat some crow on this.

I'm sure it has been pointed out but the other piece of good news regarding this event is that he won't be nominated to fill a vacant Supreme Court seat.

Apparently they've turned more than a few conservatives away too, if one is to look at the 2006 elections.

20 good conservatives lost in the House. Four good conservatives lost in the Senate.

Anybody who contributed to that loss isn't a good conservative.

He may literally save us from ourselves. :-)

This scandal is the biggest fake-job since Michael Jackson's marriage. Here’s how Bush should handle it. Tell the press he may fire Gonzalez and announce something important, then say:

"I have spoken with AG Gonzales. I am not happy with his answers to Congress, and with what administration officials have said to the Congress and public. Although prior statements were true, but have been misinterepreted by members of Congress for political partisan reasons, they are not the bottom-line that needs to be made clear … What we should have been saying all along is that the Attorneys serve as a part of the Justice Dept and that these positions are determined through internal hiring processes. Attempts are made to obtain Senate approval for positions but we have the legal right to fill positions as needed to execute the laws and carry out Federal policies. The decisions we made in these processes were appropriate, ethical, legal, and fully within the proper scope of the executive branch. There is no need for Congress to investigate these internal decisions because they are wholly executive branch matters, and to engage in political witch hunt over our internal decisions is to fray our Constitutional separation of powers. I will resist the Democrat Congresses’ assault on the Constitution should they continue in this unwarranted attack, and I will keep Mr Gonzalez to help in defending our Constitution and laws."

But if they looking for a replacement, try this one - bring back John Ashcroft!

The U.S. Atty, Carol Lam of San Diego who was fired is the major key to some of the problems.
We get a lot more news on this as it is also local news here.
If she had to go, the timing was not good as she was about
to do search warrants on a high ranking CIA official and the guy who was tied into Cunningham here.
Part of the problem is not so much the problem but how it was handled.

Yes, we now assume there are sleeper cells--perhaps many sleeper cells.

We've seen how the two-guys-with-one-rifle cell called The DC Sniper could disrupt matters, and so must concede the sleepers have leverage far beyond their numbers.

Taking the long view, that the Iranian nuclear facilities must be taken down, and, just as in Desert Storm, Israel should not figure--else the Muslim nations react against the U.S., an attack should be in the advanced planning or early execution stages--considering his time runs out January 20, 2009.

Some mention of the vulnerability of the food supply was made in the recent past. No doubt the jihadi mind will address every such vulnerability.

Let not CAIR and the ACLU hamper the conduct of the coming conflict.

That's a red line.

I think those dem apaprachiks have had a LOT of control..and have put not only Bush's presidency, but our country in jeopardy.

Almost every agency with career workers has leaked something...and none of it was good for Pres. Bush or the country.

Also...I see Congress as not just wanting to be an 'equal' branch of government, but to be MORE powerful that the POTUS.

jon f'n carry was on Hairball tonight..and he said that the Iraq war is the "biggest foreign policy blunder in American History"...and YET, HE voted for it..as did a majority in both parties..

Is HE taking blame? NO>...but, now, he goes on to tell Chrissy that Bush HAS to go to the UN and other countries for help.

NO..he won't take blame, but YES, he will tell the POTUS what he has to do...

ALSO...he said that if the US had "let the UN come in right after Baghdad was taken, we wouldn't be in this shape"...and Chrissy didn't remind him that the UN DID go in....and there was an explosion at the UN headquarters...

And the UN ran like hell out of Iraq...

So much for "international help".

I remember when Norman Mineta's head was demanded on a stick. For some unknown goofy reason. I'm thinking it had something to do with the TSA.

I realize that you don't live in an area with many high-activity airports, but I'm sure if you did, you'd realize the disaster the TSA has become. In retrospect, there is no good reason why airport security should not have remained private.

Or, Ann's kid at the NYT editorial page, lol.

We need a serious rightwing media who the left can be afraid of. Right now we have ZERO.

No investigative reporters who have a high profile, no news mags with any mass influence, a few newspapers, a few anchors and producers on Fox, and our influence in film, TV, mainstream literature, music, is a vast wasteland.

Culturally we have our faith, our churches, strong communities and families, and thank you God for that.

And be thankful that this President is a good man, a god-fearing man, who loves his country and his fellow Americans deeply, I know I am.

"Mike Allen is the chief political correspondent for Politico. He comes to us from Time magazine where he was their White House correspondent. Prior to that, Allen spent six years at The Washington Post, where he covered President Bush's first term, Capitol Hill, campaign finance, and the Bush, Gore and Bradley campaigns of 2000. Before turning to national politics, he covered schools and local governments in rural counties outside Fredericksburg, Va., for The Free Lance-Star, then wrote about Doug Wilder, Oliver North, Chuck Robb and the Bobbitts for the Richmond Times-Dispatch, where he nurtured police sources on overnight ride-alongs through housing projects. Allen also covered Mayor Giuliani, the Connecticut statehouse and the wacky rich of Greenwich for The New York Times. Before moving to The Times, he did stints in the Richmond and Alexandria bureaus of The Washington Post. Allen grew up in Orange County, Calif., and has a B.A. from Washington and Lee University, where he majored in politics and journalism."

I am skeptical about the source. I recall reading his articles while at the WP. He has a liberal agenda.
