Cheney will be the next one thrown overboard. I'm afraid the Bush presidency is over.

If Bush can let a man like Rumsfeld go, it is not a great feat to imagine Gonzales being shown the door. Where is the president's spine?

what can you do - they don't have the spine to stand up and defend themselves, so why should anyone else?

and he's getting no support here at home either.

Too true; in fact, he's been attacked from both sides for years now.

Bush has managed to castrate himself for all the world to see. When is he going to cut and run out of Iraq?

They ought to tell the Democrats and Gonzoles both to STFU and carry. Bush never should have picked Gonzoles in the first place -- he's just not tough enough.

Yes, the president is spineless about some things. Not in the usual way, since a typical spineless person is also spineless about policy (or its equivalent in his life or work). Bush's lack of spine appears when it comes to defending himself, his party, or, in many cases, those who work for him. He seems most comfortable defending people against the right. If it's the MSM or the left, he seems AWOL. I would not work the man, partly for this reason. And we need to make sure that the Republican party, if possible, doesn't nominate such a person again.

Amen to what you say!! Bush's pick of Cheney was so BRILLIANT, and Judge Roberts for CHIEF Justice was also brilliant, but he left Minetta, Scott the Spokesman, Tenet, Powell and many others in there WAAAAAAAAYYYYY too long!! He now looks like a wuss, but I am glad that spineless wimpy Gonzalez is leaving. EMPTY SUIT.

Here is proof that Congressional Republicans have forced this mess by not help the Admin and standing up and fighting.

BUSH WON RE-ELECTION....MANY OF THE CONGRESIONAL WIMPS...DID NOT!

Proof is in the numbers.

If I was Bush...I would not lift one damn finger to help Congressional Republicans in '08.

Don't believe me that this is a problem...start calling the DC offices of Congressional Republicans...and find out how little those legislative wonks actually know about the districts they represent!!!

They never go there...they don't have time for people from there...they look down on the staff folks in the districts.

AND THEN LOOK AT THIS...NONE OF THOSE HILL REPUBLICAN ASSISTANTS HAVE ANY REAL WORLD EXPERIENCE.

Most of them went to college on dad's money...then got an internship on the Hill...and then went straight to some legislative aid position.

AND PEOPLE WONDER WHY REPUBLICANS ON THE HILL HAVE LOST TOUCH!!.

From signing Campaign Finance Reform to firing Rummy to the imminent firing of Alberto Gonzales, Bush has gone off the deep end in capitulating to Democratic Demands.

CFR was a long time ago - SecDef Rumsfeld (a great SecDef) was not fired. It was a mutual decision after the DEMs won in Nov (because a bunch of GOPers stayed home and pouted! because they didn't agree with GWB on every issue). SecDef Rumsfeld put the good of the American soldier above himself and understood what is needed in these times is a person who can be effective and make decisions (in the position of SecDef). The DEMs were going to keep Rumsfeld in hearings after hearings had he stayed on.

If Gonzales leaves it will be because he cannot take the heat (personally). He will not be fired. But if he can't take the heat.....he needs to go. That pay grade doesn't allow the luxury of needing one's hand held during tough times.

"The base," as some of you like to refer to yourselves as, has been a BIG part of the problem.

They have continually demanded for SOMEBODY'S head about something; a lot of the pandering to "the base" has been a HUGE problem during this administration and this Congress.

Good riddance to a guy who refused to enforce our border laws and picked on law-abiding gun-owners and businesses.

My guess for the replacement? Probably Harriet Miers or another old Bush family friend. Somebody who can be relied on to continue persecuting border agents doing their jobs, groups like the Minutemen and ignore illegals and those who employ them and jurisdictions which refuse to enforce INS laws.
