Republican officials operating at the behest of the White House have begun seeking a possible successor to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, whose support among GOP lawmakers on Capitol Hill has collapsed, according to party sources familiar with the discussions.

You're doing a good job Brownie!
Maybe that's because this president is busy standing up to the biggest and most dangerous enemies this country has ever had, and he's getting no support here at home either.
a big DITTO and worth repeating!
I used to have such confidence in Bush - not that I think he's God or anything - but I always knew he'd take care of things and come through. Remember how he took total command of the 2002 Cong. elections -- sure it was after 9/11, but he was such a leader. It's discouraging, all we can do is pray....
This is true; I just don't understand it unless he just knows that it doesn't matter WHAT he does, he's going to be attacked by one side or the other.
That's pretty much already underway; think not? Take a look at this forum.
From signing Campaign Finance Reform to firing Rummy to the imminent firing of Alberto Gonzales, Bush has gone off the deep end in capitulating to Democratic Demands.
Yes which is just why Bush would be wise not to throw Gonzales overboard.
I can't believe this many people are so stupid as to not understand WHAT THEY THEMSELVES HAVE WROUGHT!!
....this is the *lesson* they showed Congress and the WH....
"How long until the 2008 election?"
Too long.
And the campaigning is too darned early!
Seems elections lately are nonstop!
The Congressman of the 26th District of Texas told folks at a local Republican Club in October...
That if Republicans did not win...it would be Congressional Republican Members' own fault...not the White House.
He was right.
Again, convince me that he defends his administration and appointees.
I know - How about Fitzy?
"Seems elections lately are nonstop! "
I should have said 'campaigning' is nonstop.
What unlistenable rants? He's already told the Republican's how to defend Bush without actually uttering the President's name. If they actually called the Democrats on their outrageous lies, they wouldn't be in the position they all find themselves in.
The sad part is, even the White House is showing efforts to cave into the outrageous nonsense spewed by the Democrats.
As far as I can see, everything for the last two years has been "made up."
I've never seen anything quite like it; it's like altered reality.
But you're right: it's the worst "marketing" since New Coke.
Bush has morphed into a moron. He derseves what he gets. If he thinks taking the high road with those that are obviously & avowedly trying to destroy him, then deserves what he gets.
Imagine if he instructed the troops in Iraq & Afghanistan to fight the same way he deals with the Liberals - ordering them to take the high road with an enemy avowed to destroy them - we'd be humiliated like in Viet Nam all over again! How refreshing it would be if he would fight Liberals like he wants our troops to fight terrorists.
Rush is right - Bush's idiotic "new tone" always manifests the same way: surrender to Liberal's demands. Bush: "You guys want Porter Goss? Axed. Rumsfeld? Here's his scalp. Gonzales? He's outta here. But don't you guys worry, I won't dare fire your Socialist Loving Moles in DOJ - CIA - State - or anyplace else. I just know that if I keep being nice to you Liberals, you'll stop all this personal destruction of me - you'll love me & think I'm a swell guy - and then you won't impeach me!"
It's clear to me now: Bush probably still beleives in the Tooth Fairy too.
I'm wondering the same in amazement. I recall Bush's first press conference after winning reelection when he said:
"I earned capital in the campaign, political capital, and now I intend to spend it.."
Is what we've seen these last two years what he meant by that?!?!
Is it possible that he is getting horrible advice from someone?? I just don't get it. Is there some type of "Wormwood/Snake-tongue" Presidential Aid whispering into his ear at night?? It makes as much sense as anything else! This is just plain odd! The thing is,, the Dems are such easy targets! Bush has legions of conservatives that are standing on their tiptoes waiting for him to fight back! I really think that if he would stop cowering to the Dems, and stop slapping his base around,, the whole mood of the country would change for the better!
