Can America's mayor win support from enough social conservatives to win the Republican nomination?
Maybe not, but social conservatives should think long and hard before they decide to pass on Giuliani. This may be difficult advice to credit. Giuliani is thoroughly alienated from the dominant concerns of the social right.
Mayor Giuliani delivered what they needed most. He reclaimed New York City from the toxic leftism of his predecessors but in the process identified himself with the moral elements of their leftism.
social conservatives are concerned about social rot and Giuliani is one of the very few executives in the history of the world with a record of reversing rot. This is appealing.
On September 11, 2001 and the days that followed he auditioned for commander in chief and the audition went well. This too is appealing. If we don't bestir ourselves to win our war with Islamic fascism, the moral state of our civilization won't matter. We won't be around to wallow in sin.
Social conservatives could benefit from the presidency of someone who agrees with them less but fights for them more. This is the crux of Giuliani's appeal to the social right and every other Republican constituency. He is a fighter, and Republicans of all sorts are sick and tired of turning the other cheek and seeking common cause with the enemy both at home and abroad.

Did NY vote for the GOP presidential candidate in the past four elections? No one should be nominated from a state that voted Democrat.

Perhaps if liberals like Rudy weren't for taking away a citizen's right to defend himself, which is granted by the Second Amendment, there wouldn't be such rampant crime in NYC.
And I had no idea that taxes have gone down in NYC....
I find it unfortunate that so called "conservatives" are willing to compromise their principles to support a liberal like Rudy. There's still plenty of time before we need to get behind any one candidate. Isn't it better to wait and see what our options are before we decide that Rudy is the *only* one who can beat Hillary. Says who, especially almost two years before the election? You Rudybots think just because he has high poll numbers right now that he is unbeatable. I have two words for you--Howard Dean.

You can see a peak just before he became mayor in 1993, but not much of a drop (down 300 in 3 years). It then fell 900 in the next 3 years and 300 more in the next 3. It certainly does not look like a steady down trend before his terms.
Like the "gut feeling" we had that GWB's compassionate conservatism was more conservative than compassionate? No, it's not a gut feeling. It's a delusion.

We all know that that statement means nothing. What positions will these judges take that will indicate that they are indeed strict constructionists?

Exactly, and maybe if Rudy hadn't made NYC a sanctuary city, there would have been less demand for services and housing making it cheaper for citizens to live there.
So why are you surprised that Giuliani's strict laws brought down crime? NYC's excessive gun control legislation had been trying to wean them off of the 2nd Amendment for over eight decades.
If Giuliani had been mayor of some other city (one that didn't enact such heinous gun control policies), his crime-fighting measures wouldn't have been received so well. Just goes to show how far removed NYC is from conventional America in terms of political tilt; they're so far left that a fellow liberal like Giuliani is called a right-wing fascist because he has an (R) after his name.
Anybody here who has extra money had best invest in sand. There is going to be a great demand any minute now amont those who do not support Rudy.
If you think Rino Rudy is a social conservative they please let me know what the heck you are drinking. But be advised that anti-freeze is not a beverage.
It's just kool-aid. Fortunately, there is an antidote.
