Sharpened Edwards ahead in Iowa new outlook is winning support in the key state.

...[T]his John Edwards is more seasoned and substantive ... and less sunny.

...

Surveys show Edwards ahead in Iowa ...

Edwards professes not to worry about his more-celebrated rivals. "What I've learned is it's a long process," he said ... He is no longer the fresh face... He can't claim a long record of political achievement. So he is offering something else, a mix of familiarity and new thinking.

Edwards calls for "transformational change, not small baby steps." ... and urges voters — it's us against those durn politicians — to challenge candidates making blue-sky promises: healthcare for all, ending poverty, erasing the deficit.

...

This is a harder-edged Edwards ... The RNC issued ... prickly quotes headlined, "Edwards turns to the dark side." ... But Edwards insisted his approach remained "very positive, very ideas-driven." That said, he added: "I do think it's important the candidates tell the truth, and sometimes people react to the truth."

Edwards, 53, has never really stopped running for president. Just four months after the last election, he was back on the Sunday talk-show circuit, distancing himself from former running mate Sen. John F. Kerry. (People familiar with their relationship say the senator from Massachusetts feels betrayed...)

Stepping down after a single Senate term, Edwards returned to North Carolina and formed an academic center to study ways of fighting poverty, the centerpiece of his 2004 bid. Some of the proposals, such as giving poor families vouchers to move to better neighborhoods and finding ways to boost savings among people of modest means, have surfaced in this presidential race.

He also traveled the world, meeting foreign leaders including Britain's Tony Blair and Germany's Angela Merkel, in an effort to pad one conspicuously thin part of his resume. Today, Edwards appears far more fluent on global affairs...

Edwards winning Iowa could seal a deal with Obama as Mrs Bill's runningmate, unless too much bad blood flows between the two over Hollywood, money, and the black vote. With Obama being the liberal with new ideas, that leaves Mrs Bill to go center for the General. Obama insulates her from Nader, as she trys to cut into mid-America. I am kinds' hoping for an Edwards disappointment in Iowa.

Edwards is out there claming that he's going to pay for everyone's healthcare by taxing the rich. What's pathetic is that people will believe that.

Yes, indeed, 2% of the population is going to fork over all of their hard-earned money to pay for your healthcare!!! And yes, there's NOTHING unethical about even making that claim. And those small businesses that pay taxes within that richest "1%," well, the press will just ignore the economic impact of that little caveat.

Honestly, I've never seen a candidate with more ridiculous ideas than what I've seen coming out of Edwards lately.

Would someone please ask John Edwards just this one question:

"Sen Edwards, in the period of time you were senator from North Carolina, what did you do for the citizens of North Carolina?"

If he is honest, he will say that he did absolutely nothing. He was too busy dreaming of being President.

No Barf Alert, WHY?

This goes to prove that we need to reinstate voter qualifications such as being able to read and write for instance.

Ah, Ann Coulter's evil plan is coming to fruition. Attack Edwards to build up his street cred among the left-wing moonbats, so he will be the democratic nominee.

Do you mean that you don't believe in."From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs"?

No, wait, Hillary said that. I bet Edwards is pissed because he didn't say it before she did.

This from a politician who said he was going to raise cripples from their wheelchairs to walk again. God but this would be funny were it happening in someone else's country!

In Edwards mind, he sees himself as a southern fried reincarnation of Bobby Kennedy in '68.

Fortunately for him, a junior Senator from New York is once again running for President, and it would be the height of irony if that candidate's campaign ended up the same way.

Democratic Presidential Debate Cancelled

A planned August 14th debate amongst the contenders for the Democratic presidential nomination was abruptly cancelled when several of the scheduled participants withdrew. The stampede away from the event was led by former vice-presidential candidate and North Carolina Senator, John Edwards, who refused to appear on the grounds that “I cannot see myself sharing the stage with Kucinich. He is hideous and misshapen, while I am boyishly good-looking. It would be like matter and anti-matter colliding. It would be
a disaster.”

Representative Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) denounced Edwards’ “cowardice” and offered to “wear a bag over my head so as not to unduly frighten ‘little Johnny.’” “These pansies want to be president, but they’re afraid to debate?” Kucinich asked. “It’s an insult to the voters, and the height of cynicism, for candidates to refuse to take the public stage and subject themselves to public scrutiny.”

The Nevada Democratic Party said the debate had to be cancelled for security reasons. “It was brought to our attention that one of the invited guests was this Obama fellow,” said state Democratic Party Chairman Tom Collins. “I’ve seen him on video tapes. He’s a pretty good speaker and makes a lot of sense. It’s not that we are anti-Muslim, far from it. But he’s not really a Democrat, per se. And some say he may be linked to the 9-11 attacks. We just
thought it would be safer to call the whole thing off.”

Senator Harry Reid (D-Nev.) offered a different rationale for the cancellation. “When we found out that the Fox network was going to broadcast the debate, canceling it was a ‘slam dunk,’” Reid said. “Fox is the most watched cable news network. Our candidates would be in danger of
over-exposure.”

Reid said that Air America’s offer to sponsor the Democrats’ debates was more to his liking. “Air America’s audience is of a more intimate nature,” Reid pointed out. “Democrats can feel freer to speak their minds without
fear of someone overhearing what is said and, perhaps, misunderstanding it.”

"Edwards is out there claming that he's going to pay for everyone's healthcare by taxing the rich. "

What self-sabbotage! Trial lawyers unite against Edwards who would socialize medicine & take away malpractice against HMOs.
