Fred Thompson is shaking up the GOP presidential field. And he's not even running yet.

BY JOHN FUND
Saturday, March 17, 2007 12:01 a.m. EDT

NEW YORK--"Expect her to recount every moment of her ordeal," the savvy district attorney mused to his deputy. "There won't be a dry eye in the jury."

"That's a take!" says a director of the hit NBC series "Law and Order." With that, Fred Thompson, the former U.S. senator from Tennessee who has played "strict constructionist" prosecutor Arthur Branch for the past four years, walks back with me to his dressing room to talk about a new role he might soon be undertaking: surprise Republican presidential candidate.

If he runs, I think it just may be Thompson.

He's a good speaker - and would make a good candidate. And, more to the point, I think he's the one candidate who would be acceptable to a majority of the party and outright unacceptable to, well, pretty much no one.

His first statement needs to be that he changed his mind on McCain Feingold even if McCain is still in the race.

J.C. Watts, an Oklahoma congressman from 1995 to 2003, has endorsed him: "I define Fred Thompson as AC, what's AC? All class."

Good development.

No, he isn't "the one candidate who would be acceptable to the majority of the party". Unlike you, a lot of us know his flaws and aren't impressed by the fact that he's an actor with a good voice.

Just what do you know about the man's record? You and others need to take a look at at and also you all need to learn just what it takes to win a primary.

BTW, if Jon Glen could easily roll Fred, the Clintons and even Obama, will find it a piece of cake to do him in.

Nope, perhaps you need to actually look at hid record and the facts, instead of YOU swooning over someone you apparently know almost nothing about.

I hope he runs. The more the better. Nothing like igniting the GOP with a full field of candidates.

Everyone has flaws! :-)

It's just that those yearning for the GREAT WHITE CONSERVATIVE HOPE, refuse to see the flaws in those whom they hope and pray will be their "deliverer".

And he is shaking up the race. Every GOP candidate is nervously watching the reaction to his possible entry. J.C. Watts, an Oklahoma congressman from 1995 to 2003, has endorsed him: "I define Fred Thompson as AC, what's AC? All class."

No, I mean like being a McCainiac and who was rolled by John Glenn and the rest of the Dems, when he chaired a Congressional Hearing, has no executive experience, and whose mentor was Howard Baker...for starters.

And since he's being coy, how can you take him seriously?

I watched the Senate hearings on Ruby Ridge (all of them, in detail). The one where the Senator told Senator swienstien that she could shoot at him with a 9mm parabellum weapon from 2.5 miles away... He did everything but call her out.

The Senator earned my respect a LONG time ago...

He's my vote. If he runs.
