"The only thing even remotely racist about the show was the flag on the General Lee."

This is probably the stupidest statement I have ever read on FreeRepublic. Please tell us what is remotely racist about the flag? It's a freaking FLAG!

It was a comment on the perception of the accusers, not on the reality of it's use in the show. No one can doubt that people perceive that as a representation of racism, right or wrong... a flag is a physical object, but people associate the flag w/ those who use it, just like a Soviet flag isn't itself, Marxist, but it represents those who waive it..

Again, this is a comment on the perception of the accusers.. not necessarily a comment to say it was used in a racist way in the show..

I think he means that the flag is the only thing about the show that anyone could possibly interpret as being racist. After all, most people associate it with a society whose economy was based on slavery.

Now I know, I know, the vast majority of people who wave the flag are not racists. I know that the vast majority of soldiers who fought under it never owned slaves. And I know that to most poeple who actually fly it, it symbolizes valor and courage and not slavery or racism. General Lee himself was opposed to slavery, as was Stonewall Jackson.

But it is perfectly understandable how some people can associate it with slavery, and therefore racism. It's not an accident that the KKK and other racist groups use it.

Calling it probably the stupidest things you've ever seen on Free Republic is one of the stupidest things I've ever seen on Free Reupblic. The person doesn't need your abuse, as he was talking about the NAACP's view of what may REMOTELY be seen as racism, not what is his own.

Geesh! Grow some more skin cells!
