You do know that the Union Army, would not draft anyone from California, don't you? It was actually more neutral.

It's not insanity (at least in clinical terms). It's the leftist march towards totalitarianism. That's the only way they win - by forcing their opponents and skeptics to shut up. Sadly, we are seeing this more and more each passing day.

It's no longer just political correctness (which iits benign form is diplomacy). It's Stalinism.

I would love to see someone transpose the features of Hillary and Uncle Joe. Any takers out there?

Funny the only thing people thought about the Confederate Flag when I was growing up was "redneck". We've allowed this pc sensitivity to go way too far.

Cooter is such a real life liberal he has no room to criticize people being PC.

Just goes to show you, no matter how PC you are, you can never be PC enough. Someone will always out-PC you and it has now moved way past simply aggravating and childish and into a Twilight Zone where the only way you can be 'inclusive' and 'non judgmental' is to be ever increasingly exclusionary and judgmental.

General John C. Fremont is still a hero there. I didn't say Californians fought in the war, but it was a Union state regardless. The point was I was educated the way most people are, with only half the story told in the new revisionist tradition.

Cooter has got baggage. He lived a few doors down from some friends of ours in Decatur. He was an alcoholic, who was charged with domestic abuse. He also has a poor marital history with multiple divorces. I can't remember exactly how many. Our friends didn't think he was the best of neighbors

You are about 2/3rds right. (and it was Tucker btw, not Decatur).

I worked for one of his ex-wives who was his wife while I was under employment there so I met Ben and became pretty good friends and had several political discussions. He was fascinated about my school grant that I received from Clayton Williams (who had run and lost the TX governer race against Ma Richards because of a really stupid remark he made) and had no idea of what a philanthropist Williams was (and still is).

I wouldn't call Ben a liberal, but more of what they call here in the south a "Yellow Dog" democrat, and in reality his ideas were far more libertarian than anything else except he was sold on some of the "Great Society" views of LBJ. Still he wasn't a bad guy and really understood the concept of public service, so for that I gave him lots of credit.

He is a reformed alchoholic, and philanderer who left my boss for another woman in a pretty sordid manner. He wasn't an abuser though, at least not physically, but he wasn't a very good husband and he will admit that.

He's had some pretty serious medical issues and other things happen to him that have seriously affected his view on life I think, the last time I saw him he seemed like a whole different person, although we didn't discuss politics except a brief aside about Bush, who he said he gained a whole new respect for because of his stance on the war.

Still, you have to give him credit here, he is absolutely right in speaking out against this stupid PC crap.

I understand that, really. I apologize if I was too quick to jump. It's just that in current day America, there are so many people now who just don't know the story behind the Confederacy or its flag. Many people are taught that the entire War Between the States was about slavery.

I assume you mean 'was' still a hero. Right?

California had lots of Union sympathizers. It also had a lot of Confederate sympathizers as well. If the South had won, it would probably not have remained in the Union.

No he is still considered a true "hero" even though he is now deceased.

Most, not all mind you, of the blacks down here don't like the Battle Flag. Just ask them. Honestly, because they all vote democrat, we tend to forget them, but some of us are working to wake up a few and hope they'll realize that the democrats are the folks that a) got them into the terrible straights they're all in, and b) take their votes for granted.

I tell my black friends that if you want free stuff, continue to vote dem cause the republicans aren't going to give it to you, but if you want to make something of yourself, and keep the money you earned, then you better well vote your pocketbook, that is republican. The dems might talk nice about you, but it's just talk. Come back to the party that stands for Freedom and Independence.

I've been making a lot of in roads with some blacks who've learned to think for themselves. But most of them hate the Confederate Battle Flag, which is a shame. But the Klan did use that flag to terrorize them back in the day. That was then and this is now, but that is the way they see it.

OK, I may be wrong. If he served two terms as a Congresscritter from Georgia, then who was it that ran in Virginia recently and lost? I'm confuzzled.

Ben Jones served two terms representing the 4th district of Georgia, 1989-1993. He lost his seat after the redistricting following the 1990 Census moved him into the 10th. He ran against Newt Gingrich in 1994, pretty much as a sacrificial lamb, drawing about 30 percent of the vote.

He later moved to Virginia, where he owns a roadside restaurant with a small Dukes of Hazard museum attached. He ran a low-budget, dark horse campaign for the Virginia 7th in 2002.

And this stupid MF'ing fool ran as a Democrat against Newt several years ago. Is he really that brain dead that he doesn't realize that the minders of the PC filters are Democrats? This man's idiocy is stunning, at best.

Is the word "Dixie" still OK, or will we get in trouble for using it lol? What if I like the Pat Green song "Dixie Lullaby"? Does that make me racist?

featuring John Schneider and Tom Wopat, who appeared in the 1979-85 series The Dukes of Hazzard

Doesn't John Schneider play Jonathan Kent on Smallville?
