Perhaps that perception is the reason Ann answered the questions the way she did which is the thought I had while watching her.
Not so much that as she said she disagreed with her husband on issues....I assumed she wasn't talking about free-trade or foreign policy.
I thought that entire segment with Mitt and his wife was designed to counteract the perception Mormon women and wives are considered and treated inferiorly to men.
Uh, Teri, I can take an educated guess, now can't I?
But guessing is not the same as knowing.
But let's, for sake of argument, assume you are correct.
Should her opinions disqualify Mitt from the presidency?
No, Mitt is doing that. I like Mitt, always have admired him, but I think he's weak on some things. I don't like ANY of the guys that are running.
However, unlike Guiliani he is willing to run on a conservative, pro-life platform and unlike more proven conservatives, he can win.
We agree on this! His record does not match what he is saying....too bad.
But we do agree it would be better if he had a stronger, more conservative, record on the social issues.
Regardless, he is the best Republican and the best conservative running, by far.
That sounds like a sterotypical misconception just like when the DUers accuse us ALL of being bigots, racists and homophobes. I wouldn't generalize like that about any group of people. I am sure there are Catholic homes or Protestant homes which are much more male-dominated than some Mormon homes and vice versa.
I am not Mormon, but I have a very close friend who is and, from my personal observation, she wears the pants in her family. She is the married mother of 6 -- 5 of whom are boys -- and she is in charge of EVERYONE. Other Mormon families I have observed also seem to have a very strong maternal presence in the home -- and women are revered and cherished.
Further, we are not hiring Mitt to be Pastor in Chief in order to convert us all to Mormonism. So what they believe or do in their homes is really their own business. I don't see it as either a plus or minus when determining whether he'd be a good president frankly. What is pertinent is that he is a man of faith and espouses the Judeo-Christian principles on which our country was founded.
I was referring to their belief that the Men determine if the Women get to heaven....am I wrong? Isn't that what they believe? If I'm wrong about that I apoligize...it's what I've been told by a number of Evangelicals. Also, can women go into the inner sanctum of the Temple?
Who cares?
I should think that Mormon women would care that they can't get into heaven if their husband doesn't let them.

I don't have anything against Mitt's religion. I do have many, many doubts about his flip-flopping and weakness to get along with the Democrats. I LIKE him, but I don't think I like him enough to be President.....I want someone that will FIGHT the evil Dems.
He was conservative on every other issue, except that one. Even on that issue, while governor, he sided with pro-life people on any legislation that came before him. So I consider that being strong and fighting the dems -- especially in a blue state like Massachusetts.
And, yes, we all want to fight and BEAT the evil Dems.
OK...I get it, he's your man. I don't have a MAN in the race yet...I'm still holding out for the UBER MSN Dick Cheney!
And, yes, I am leaning Romney, but I am waiting to see the debates before I donate my time and money. I may be persuaded by someone else still.
A woman's husband DOES NOT determine and choose if she gets into heaven or not. I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. God determines the whether a person enters heaven.
I've been LDS my whole life, I've heard a lot of "misconceptions" of our faith; the best from my uber-liberal law school students, but this is the first I've heard this one. I'm surprised I haven't got this one asked of me at school.
But no, it's not true. The only judge of who is able to enter heaven will be the one, true, just and merciful God.
Sorry, but even Mormons on FR have said as such but they argue that the men will ALWAYS want their wives to come to heaven, or planet isn't it, with them. If you never have heard this, maybe there are sects of different teachings.
