[Bob Shrum] Book: Hillary Clinton Nearly Kerry's Running Mate in 2004

Hillary Rodham Clinton would like to be president. In the last campaign, she might have been the vice presidential nominee.

The New York senator and former first lady was on a list of possible running mates for 2004 Democratic nominee John Kerry, according to an upcoming book by top Kerry strategist Bob Shrum.

But Clinton was quickly ruled out because quiet polling found she was too polarizing, Shrum writes.

Clinton said around that time that she would not have been interested in the job if Kerry asked her. "I made it clear I don't want that to happen," Clinton said on NBC in April 2004. "And what my answer will be, no, if it does happen. I'm not prepared to do that."

"Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson said neither she nor her advisers had an effort to place her name on the short list of potential Kerry running mates. Among other things, Clinton pledged in her 2000 campaign to serve out her entire Senate term and was serious about fulfilling that promise, Wolfson said.

Kerry spokesman Vincent Morris said conversations about selecting a running mate were private and the Massachusetts senator wants them to remain that way.

Shrum wrote that Clinton was on a list of about 25 possibilities drawn up early in the search process.

His book, "No Excuses: Concessions of a Serial Campaigner," is scheduled for publication June 5. The Associated Press obtained excerpts from uncorrected galley proofs.

Just what we need: a book about campaigning by a moonbat who has never been part of a winning campaign. I see much potential for humor!

Who knows, maybe some masculinity would have helped the ticket.

I'm guessing they were considering HRC before Thereza got word of it. I somehow don't think she'd go for another woman's hands on his puppet strings.

Anyway, he obviously made the right decision - he's still alive.

John Kerry was supported by the Kennedy arm of the party correct? I bet the VP slot to Hillary was proposed as a means to defang the venom the Clintons were secretly pooring into the campaign to defeat Kerry.

If Kerry had won in 04 then there would have been no 06 revolt and the Republicans would still own congress in 08. Of course Kerry would have ran again for a second term and that would have put the next opportunity for Hillary candidacy when she was 69 years old (if Kerry had lost for a second term). If Kerry has won a second term then Edwards would be the democrat nominee in 2012 when Hillary was 73!!

Point is Hillary needed Bush to win in 04 to setup her perfect run. No all she needs is for the Bush administration to get sold by the MSM as more corrupt than her husband's to mute the memories of the voting moderates.

I figure Kerry is too clueless to realize that he would have beaten William Henry Harrison's record for how short a time he would have been President. He picked Edwards over Hillary because he has better hair.

Kerry didn't want to have a shorter presidency than William Harrison.

What is so hilarious is this; let's say, only for 'theoretical purposes only' she did win in 2008, John Kerry wouldn't have a place anywhere in her
administration. Can you imagine how worthless he'd feel about himself then??? LMAO!!!
