Thompson Seeking Political Operatives
"The hype over former Sen. Fred Thompson has some substance to it, as the actor-politician has already begun approaching experienced campaign hands in key states," according to the latest Evans-Novak Political Report.
"Thompson effectively embraced the Republican right when he ran for and entered the U.S. Senate. From the perspective of the Republican Party's conservative base, he stacks up well against each of the "Big Three" leading Republican candidates. His voting record (lifetime American Conservative Union rating: 86%) in the Senate is more conservative than that of Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain (lifetime ACU rating: 82%), none of his position-switches are nearly as bad or as recent as those of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R), and nothing in his background is as negative as that of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R)."
"Given enough money, Thompson could make a good run at it by tearing down the conservative credentials of the 'Big Three' and then building himself up as a tax-cutting, pro-life former senator. His acting role on Law & Order does not hurt, either."
I think Thompson enjoys acting a lot more, than being a politician. Who wouldn't?
Maybe you should share some of you long beautiful hair with Thompson. Just a thought.
I've read most of them. And I'm a native New Yorker, lived here all my life. So I've seen the Little Red Rudester from the git go. Hamill will win the Gold in Hades before I vote for him.
And you're right about me. No nuance. Nuance is for people that can't make up their mind based on what's in front of them. No sensitivity, either. But if my friends heard you refer to me as naive, and you were in the same room they were, you'd be deaf from the volume of the laughter.
LOL! I'm trying to visualize that.
Most people would. Of course, most people wouldn't have the temerity to turn around and then expect to become nominated for President of the U.S, like it's just his next acting job... JMO, of course.
Gee Torie, what is the prize before I try to exhibit my brilliance? :0)
Yes, Torie is being naughty and not nice. Satan has taken over my brain once again.
That would be telling. Lawyers never tell it, before its time.
Actually, it would be attorney-actor-politician-actor.
Ha ha ha ha ha! Right!
Hearing conservation is job three for me, after memory retention, and well, one other thing that needs attentive conservation. So well, I will avoid that particular moment to which you refer.
The Economist once had a very arresting article about the merits of centralizing, decentralizing, and then centralizing again, when it comes to goverence in government or corporations. The change one way, and then the other, were as salubrious as breathing in and out. Stasis can be a near death experience.
And there you have it.
I don't know if there is any merit in it. But it certainly happens. Generally because neither arrangement is ideal. So you set up one way, and after a while you are used to it and see all it's flaws. Someone notes that the flaws can be fixed by setting up the "other" way, so you switch things around.
After a few years you realise there are flaws, and someone notes that you can fix those flaws by switching back.
I used the terms "one way" and "back" because this is generally applicable to any organization, and not tied to "centralized" vs "decentralized".
For example, a lot of large development organizations go back and forth between "functional" and "programatic" organization.
And whoever recommends the change each time gets a bonus.
In this particular instance, I always think it's a good sign when a person gets into politics, and then has the sense to quit even though they know they would win re-election.
Coburn did it as a house member, and unfortunately will likely do it as Senator, hopefully not until his second term at least.
I think America would be better off if every person elected to office had first had to have a real job, and if they knew they would have to go back and LIVE in whatever mess they had made during their time in office.
A member of the private sector, FYI. .. I suppose I wouldnt mind acting , but I dont know the "right" people.
You are a capitalism snob. Capitalism comes in many colors, and many products and services. You right coast types just have the other coast envy of the beautiful people, and the highly remunerative services they provide to entertain the noisome pop culture masses.
Sorry. When I think of Maryland, I think of the public sector. Just a bad habit of mine.
You "got it" perfectly, and here I thought you were another red meat rabid unsophisticated right wing extremist. Back to the drawing board. :)
I admit, Rudy has nicer legs. Let's hope the first debate isn't held in drag, or Fred will be at a definite disadvantage.
