Good luck, Lefty — it’s going to be a long haul
Boston Herald ^ | 3/14/07 | Howie Carr

You’re Lt. Gov. Tim Murray and you’re not in Worcester anymore.

You have tire tracks up and down your back from all the times Deval’s crew has thrown you under the bus this past week.

First it was the Ameriquest disaster. You got pushed out in front of the cameras to say, “No problem.”

An hour later, Deval lobbed a press release out into the hall, saying, “Big problem!”

Then, Saturday night, Deval’s moonbats left you hanging out in an Al Haig-like I’m-in-charge moment. It was another press release: Deval is going to a “flexible” schedule for a while, because of Diane, and you’ll be handling some of his duties.

But Monday, the story changes, as it so often does these days at the State House. Never mind, Deval is going to be around. Which left you to go out and have a Ted Kennedy moment in front of the mikes:

“I’ve spoken to the governor and he’s tending to what he should be tending to uh his family and uh uh uh and you know, we we’re with the governor and there’s plenty of good people here to to do what needs to be done and what he needs to do.”

You’re Tim Murray, and Sunday you marched in the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Worcester wearing a giant ’30s-style sash with a dog named Smash.

You can take the boy out of Worcester, but you can’t take the Worcester out of the boy.

Take two, Timmy. Who exactly is in charge here?

“Gov. Patrick is in charge of this administration uh he’s gonna be uh active and involved uh he’s just gonna take a little bit more time uh uh to make sure that uh his family uh is is doing well and that’s where he should be.”

Somehow it never ends happily for lieutenant governors: from Muffy Healey all the way back to Donald Dwight and Tommy O’Neill.

Just like somehow it never ends well for guys from Worcester County who come to the big city: from Fat Matt Amorello and Paul Kujawski all the way back to Joe Early Sr. and Sen. Jimmy Kelly.

In Southie on Sunday they can’t go after Deval at the St. Patrick’s Day breakfast, so that leaves you, Tim Murray. Worcester County Sheriff Guy Glodis was just warming up Sunday at the Elks Club after the parade:

“They were gonna get Timmy a Cadillac, too, but he couldn’t see over the dashboard.”

At St. John’s in Shrewsbury, you were the quarterback. Now you’re the tackling dummy. A talk-radio station yesterday was conducting a poll. What should your nickname be? The Pillsbury Dough Boy or Lefty - Lefty of course referring not only to your politics but also to your faux pas of raising your left, rather than your right hand, to be sworn in as lieutenant governor.

Hey, you flunked the bar exam at least once. Nobody ever said you were the sharpest knife in the drawer. You were the mayor, but Worcester has a Plan E government, meaning weak mayor. Key word: weak.

You were Deval’s private pick for lieutenant governor, namely because Shannon O’Brien lost everything west of 495, and because Deval and Deb Goldberg of Brookline might have been a little too moonbatty, even for some moonbats.

Plus, despite the name and the religion and the Massachusetts background, you did have one very significant moonbat credential: You defended sex offenders.

That makes you Good People.

You’re a liberal puke from the West Side, a member in good standing of the McGovern-Augustus-Castro wing of the Democratic party in Worcester, which, as Truman Capote once wrote, “even in the best of weathers seems cheerless and hostile.”

Hostile? Wait until Sunday in Southie. You’ll be taking bullets for two.

You’re Tim Murray, and Evelyn Murphy called. She feels your pain.

is this a threat? then again, there is a lot of huffing and puffing here, but little specifics.

Quality stuff... I think Howie is as sick of this state as I am.

yes, I am. But is he threatening to shoot someone?

If somebody told me that I'd be "catching bullets", I'd consider that a threat - wouldn't you?

Do you know what Sunday is?

St. Patty's Day Sunday. Southie is predominantly Irish and the celebrations tend to get a bit.........boisterous.

I was the one asking the question of the other poster.
When Howie said he will be catching the bullets for two, he was talking about the St Patty's Day breakfast for all the pols in Boston.

Harpoon's St Pattys Day party is the best.
