Clinton denounces Halliburton's move

By JOE STINEBAKER, Associated Press Writer 47 minutes ago

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton on Monday denounced oil giant Halliburton's planned relocation to Dubai.

"I think it raises a lot of very big concerns and we're going to be looking into it in Washington," the New York senator said at a news conference in the Bronx. "I think it's disgraceful that American companies are more than happy to try to get no-bid contracts like Halliburton has, and then turn around and say, 'You know, we're not going to stay.'"

On Saturday, Halliburton CEO Dave Lesar announced that the conglomerate's headquarters would move from Houston to Dubai, a booming city in the United Arab Emirates known for its liberal tax and residency laws. Lesar said the company's business was now largely based in the Middle East and Asia.

Halliburton, which was headed by Vice President Dick Cheney from 1995-2000, received several lucrative no-bid government contracts to manage the reconstruction of Iraq following the U.S.-led invasion there. Last month, federal investigators alleged Halliburton was responsible for $2.7 billion of the $10 billion in contractor waste and overcharging in Iraq.

In 2006, Halliburton earned profits of $2.3 billion on revenues of $22.6 billion.

"We have a lot of evidence about their misuse of government contracts and how they have cheated the American soldier, cheated the American taxpayer, they have taken money and not provided the services," said Clinton, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee. "So, does moving overseas mean that we won't be able to pursue these investigations?"

They were the only company cabable of doing certain jobs.

There is more money to be made in business friendly markets elsewhere. The left better proceed with caution while they're bashing corporate America. The day just might come when Halliburton and like companies simply won't bid at all on USA contracts.
Why should they when business climate is friendlier and more profitable elsewhere. I can visualize the day when our Military won't be able to find a US company that'll join the bidding process for critical jobs. "Thanks for the opportunity to bid but we'll pass for now...we're too busy."

Then who is hitlery going to demand taxes from.

Fast food companies get notice of a 90% tax rate on gross sales effective Jan 1st. While the Clinton administration has attempted to find other companies to tax the flight of corporate America from US shores has left only the fast food industry to tax. Democratic insiders now claim that both personal and industry is taxed at the same new rate of 90% (gross income, not net).

It will still be necessary however to continue borrowing from rich countries such as Zimbabwe and Ethiopia who now hold huge chunks of U.S. debt. The Chinese government has approved this rate and will review it's worth at their next global policy meeting.

Amazing what goes out for bids, isn't it? And the specs....definitely causes one to understand how the famous '$600 toilet seat' came about.

The "$600 toilet seat" is a creation of Congress. Congress mandated that every piece of equipment delivered on a defense contract include its share of the entire cost of research, development, and creation of all manufacturing facilities. So the cost of the toilet seat is calculated in the following way:
purchased toilet seat $ 5
pro-rata cost of R&D $595
total cost of line item toilet seat $600

The same thing happens with a $5 hammer and a $25 coffee pot.

Then Democrats loudly complain that the US taxpayer is getting ripped off by the evil military industrial complex.

WAIT A MINUTE.

I heard on the news last night that the CEO is moving to the middle east because that is where the customers are now - no new oil fields are being developed in the US. It is easier to sell stuff to your customer if you are in the same time zone, not offset by 8 hours.

Moverover, the Halliburton spokesman stated that Halliburton would maintain their headquarters here and remain a US Corporation, so they are NOT moving to escape US taxes.

And Congress has made it very difficult for a US Corporation to relocate overseas to escape US taxes.

You are absolutely right. And a good example is the scumbag Rep. Dingall of Michigan who is on record as saying: "There should be NO government contracting with private enterprise and EVERYTHING should be done by government agencies." What a joke! Can you just imagine the countless items and services that the government relies upon (particularly the military) that would be non-existent or complete failures if government agencies solely 'manufactured' them? Would you like to fly in an airplane that was designed and built by the U.S. Postal Service equivalent?
