Has he changed his position?
So?
This is not an issue for me. And probably not for many conservatives here. Isn't that fascinating? And for you, quite frustrating and discouraging?
I'd say that's worth holding a grudge over.
Wouldn't you?

Do these people not get the fact we ain't talking about something fungible when we talk about abortion?
"This is not an issue for me. And probably not for many conservatives here. Isn't that fascinating? And for you, quite frustrating and discouraging?"
The only issue is the big problem with the abuse of the word "conservative".
No real conservative agrees with taxpayer funding for abortions. No ifs, ands, buts.
No they don't. Worse than that they don't care.
For the life of me I can't understand why they're willing to overlook Rudys well established and often repeated statements on abortion, gun control, the First Amendment, gay 'rights', etc etc etc.
And as if his statements on the subjects weren't enough, we have his actions to back his statements up.
But none of that matters.
"Rudy is conservative....Rudy is conservative....Rudy is conservative...you're getting very sleepy...Rudy is conservative" is repeated over and over and over again in spite of the mountains of evidence that the man doesn't have a conservative bone in his miserable Northeastern New York City Liberal body.
Rudy is a fraud. No, check that. He's a lying fraud.
I'll not vote for him under any circumstances.

There are two sets of Republican Conservatives.
Some of us are "fiscal conservatives" and social moderates who think that either Roe vs. Wade is bad consitutional law, but abortion should be an issue of state concern or that abortion should be legalized.
If abortion is legal, a tenable argument can be made by us fiscal conservatives that taxpayer funded abortions will place less of a strain on the Welfare, WIC, foster care and other social programs that exist and from a financial standpoint it makes logical financial sense to allow taxpayer funded abortions in a system where the practice is legalized.
We are generally conservative on other freedoms, such as anti-gun laws that abridge the second amendment.
The other group of "conservative" Republicans are those that are fiscal and social conservatives.
It's a disservice to not count the fiscal conservatives as part of the conservative movement on all fronts.
Oh, do you run the club?
Not any longer!
Well stated!
Abortion, Gays, Gun Laws, Illegals (He is for virtual fense)..
Fortunately for you, there is many issues to pick from. If you still call yourself a conservative voting for Rudy after that manta list, well we will just have to disagree.
I'm just waiting for the flaming.
But for a party to be a majority party, there needs to be some differences in opinion on some, but not all, issues. Our common ground is as a pro-Military, pro-low tax, pro-business party. It gets dicey with the social issues.
You can make all the arguments you want.
THEY ARE LIBERAL ARGUMENTS.
It is not a matter of opinion but a matter of biological fact that life begins at conception and that there is human life in the womb. As such, a belief in the sacredness of life, a conservative view, yields a belief in the necessity of protecting that life. It doesnt yield to utilitarian concerns (a non-conservative argument anyway - are people chattel?) To believe otherwise is simply not the conservative view.
Once you choose that contrary position, you have bought the swill of the liberal pro-death socialists. you cannot be a conservative while espousing fundamentally non-conservative views and using fundamentally non-conservative arguments, even if you pretend and call yourself one.
And that is just one of many issues where Rudy is a non-conservative.
You can dress up like a woman, but that doesnt make you one.
Just ask Rudy.
Let's look at your five issues:
1) Abortion -- 1) the President's control over this issue is vested with the Supreme Court, 2) Guiliani will appoint justices like Alito. This should be a non-issue for the abortion right.
2) Gays - 1) Guiliani won't mess with don't ask, don't tell. 2) I highly doubt he's going to have the power to pass a law allowing Hillary and Janet to get married. a) It would be political suicide and b) and even if he wants to commit political suicide, he'll LOSE in the House.
3) Gun Laws - He won't change the existing laws. He doesn't have the power to. Congress, as it is composed right now, will not exactly be passing serious gun control reforms in the near future.
4) Illegals - This is probably the most difficult issue for any candidate. I am skeptical to think that a fence is going to do any good, even if built. Dismantlng smuggling networks would probably be more efficient. This issue is the most difficult to find a politically practical solution to.
