Mayan leaders will spiritually "cleanse" ancient ruins in Guatemala after a visit by US President George Bush, unpopular because of foreign policies going back to Central America's civil wars.
The leaders said they would hold a spiritual ceremony to restore "peace and harmony" at the Mayan ruins of Iximche after Bush tours the site on Monday.
"No, Mr Bush, you cannot trample and degrade the memory of our ancestors," said indigenous leader Rodolfo Pocop during a press conference. "This is not your ranch in Texas."
"We've burned this flag for what the Yankee did all over the world."

You know...that's exactly what we tell our leftist liberals here in the USA. Any Mayan ceremonies we can perform to cleanse the USA from the ravages of lunatic liberalisms seeking to undermine our Constitution?
Not likely, that was the Aztecs, not the Maya, IIRC. The Maya did have some ritual sacrifices though.
While we know what happened to the Aztecs, in a word Cortez, but we don't really know what happened to the Mayans. They just sort of disappeared as a civilization (such as it was). Their descendants do still live in Southern Mexico and Northern Central America, and some remnants of their language hang on, mainly in place names. In fact the paternal grandmother of our first exchange student was a Maya, family name "Dzib".
