IF Libby serves even one hour behind bars this lifelong Conservative/Republican will forever abandon the party financially. I dare say there are thousands who feel the same. Probably hundreds and hundreds of thousands.

I disagree with your position based on your last paragraph. For that reason alone we can't adopt your option to "forever abandon the party financially." Instead we have to replace the bastards who make the decision to toss Libby to the wolves.
If it's our party then we are responsible for what they do, good or bad. If they do bad things we can't wash our hands by walking away. It's our responsibility to make it right. That's our part of the contract as citizens.

Yes it's our responsibility and I have worked tirelessly since Nixon to finally have a conservative congress and President. This went away in November thanks to the conservatives forgetting who "brought them to the dance".
There is just something about this most gross miscarriage of justice that has caused me great consternation and continues to do so.
I'll probably rethink my position to some extent if this plays out badly but I will never be as disappointed in any President as I would President Bush if he leaves Libby hanging.
As hard as I try I just cannot get over the fact this administration had the power, responsibility and knowledge to nip this in the bud. They knew a crime had not been committed before the appointment of Fitz, yet let him run wild.
