The more the Iraqi's fear we will pull out the less likely they are to join forces with US troops. Who could blame them.

What the dirty dems are doing with the time line BS is nothing less than traitorous no doubt but the surge is working I say let it work.

As far as Fred Thompson's looking sick, I noticed too that he looked washed out, pale. But so did Wallace and Kristol and what's her name. The lighting was overdone, imho.

I caught FRed on with Chris Wallace this morning, one of the rare occasions I did not immediately switch the channel or mute the sound as I now do for all talking head shows and their commenters..

He has warts, so do all of the current hounds in the hunt.

I hope he does enter the race ,
America has survived worse ...

which seems to be what many forget.. in their own partisan way. ;-)

"Spaghetti and Meat Sauce," as we would call the classic Spaghetti Bolognese, is at least as popular as Mac and Cheese for kids in the States, but for "baby boomers" I think Mac and Cheese represents "comfort food" more strongly.  At least that's true for my wife and I and because of that it's also true for our kids.

Thomas Jefferson is "credited with introducing macaroni" to the US and with coming up with the Mac and Cheese recipe as we know it here in the States.  Here's a link to the Thomas Jefferson recipe.

I've not tried Paula Deen's Mac & Cheese, but it looks like a good version of the classic recipe.  Alton Brown's recipe looks more interesting, though:

Baked Macaroni and Cheese
Recipe courtesy Alton Brown
Show:  Good Eats
Episode:  For Whom the Cheese Melts 2

1/2 pound elbow macaroni
3 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons flour
1 tablespoon powdered mustard
3 cups milk
1/2 cup yellow onion, finely diced
1 bay leaf
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1 large egg
12 ounces sharp cheddar, shredded
1 teaspoon kosher salt
Fresh black pepper

Topping:

3 tablespoons butter
1 cup panko bread crumbs
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

In a large pot of boiling, salted water cook the pasta to al dente.

While the pasta is cooking, in a separate pot, melt the butter. Whisk in the flour and mustard and keep it moving for about five minutes. Make sure it's free of lumps. Stir in the milk, onion, bay leaf, and paprika. Simmer for ten minutes and remove the bay leaf.

Temper in the egg. Stir in 3/4 of the cheese. Season with salt and pepper. Fold the macaroni into the mix and pour into a 2-quart casserole dish.

Top with remaining cheese.

Melt the butter in a saute pan and toss the bread crumbs to coat. Top the macaroni with the bread crumbs. Bake for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and rest for five minutes before serving.

Remember to save leftovers for fried Macaroni and Cheese.

He also adds variations

Stove Top Mac-n-Cheese

Next Day Mac and Cheese "Toast"

A search on FoodTV's web site turns up 80 variations for Mac and Cheese.

Sandra Lee, the Semi Homemade lady, offers up two variations when preparing packaged Mac and Cheese

Mexican-Style Macaroni and Cheese

Italian-style Macaroni and Cheese

In both cases she makes the "blue box" stuff, then puts it in a casserole dish and adds seasoning packages and extra cheese then bakes for 5 minutes to melt the extra cheese.  I saw her do this and she was emphasizing that you could do this with almost any seasoning package that sounds interesting to you.  In the States we have McCormick's, who has lots of "seasoning mixes," and Lipton is now Knorr-Lipton, where they have a lot of "soup mixes" which they primarily sell as "recipe classics."  Some of those might be real interesting.  Some might be awful.

That is good to hear...we need to help them help themselves get free.

Now...we need to figure out the best way...and I am pretty sure that somewhere, Prs. Bush has some people tasked to do just that...

Fred has one "problem" that the demedia will love. Deferrments during the Sixties ---

Any perceived weakness in a candidate will certainly be seized upon by the opposition, from within or without of his/her party. But, IMHO, the country has previously decided the issue of the "draft dodger" accusation's efficacy in the Bubba era. I don't think it will scour with regard to Giuliani or Thompson.

The more Conservative, yet still pragmatic, elements of the Pub party are desperately seeking the anti-Rudy. Fred has, at this time, the corner on that market; and he knows it. His appearance today on FNS is proof that a serious contest is underway for the heart and soul for the GOP. While still supporting Hunter, I am willing to give Thompson every consideration if he should declare for the nomination.

What was the final vote margin in the Congress on McCain-Feingold?

Do your own research. I bet it wasn't veto proof.

I was alerted to watch Fred Thompson's appearance on FOX by a conservative Republican in another time zone who likes Fred anyway and was more than excited about the possibility of him running for President. I was impressed with Fred's responses to Chris Wallace's questions and I will be interested in learning more about him. I think there is merit in his decision to wait awhile before making his decision official. For one thing, which I will welcome at a personal level, is that all of the vitriol that has been spewed on this particular forum about any and all candidates so far, has lost the impact it started with and whatever of the same is used to pound Thompson with will largely be bypassed for consideration of his substance.

Yes, hopefully she will.

I am hoping that there will also be a LIVE thread on the day of the protests...so we can be kept up on what is happening.

fyi, 68-32. Would be pretty politically stupid to veto a bill you KNOW you are going to be overridden on.

Not if it is a matter of principle. I wonder what the vote might have been had the President announced beforehand that he was going to veto it.

Why would we (she asked perplexed).

No seriously we really just like jam (jelly doughnuts) though you can buy some with vanilla, custard, lemon or chocolate in the middle. We even sell some with icing and hundred thousands on them (candy strands) but us Brits really prefer either the jam doughnut (the best) or what we call an American doughnut bought from a street trader (ring doughnut).

IF Libby serves even one hour behind bars this lifelong Conservative/Republican will forever abandon the party financially. I dare say there are thousands who feel the same. Probably hundreds and hundreds of thousands.

I'm the exception I guess. As long as Libby is pardoned by Bush, I don't care about the timing. Let's see what Libby's sentence is in May.

Some one should ask Biden since it's his opinion that Iraq be split along political and sectarian lines would he like to see the same done here. Tell him we have the 2000 and 2004 red/blue maps to use as a starting point. Each region would be fully autonomous, free to set up whatever form of government they wish and unable to enforce it's edicts on the other regions. Let's see-we can call the Northeast enclave New Camelot, the Midwest enclave Barakistan, and the West Coast enclave the Counter Culture Commonwealth of the Pacific or C.C.C.P. for short. The rest of us will welcome likeminded individuals fleeing the Liberal hoards with open arms especially the military. They would be free to pick where they choose to serve and take whatever equipment (planes, ships, tanks, and everything else) assigned to them with them.

My mother used to make a big ole baking dish of homemade macaroni and cheese and it was good...but, I liked it when she took the leftovers and fried it until crispy, and I would put ketchup on it....YUMMY!!!

't's about time someone mentioned the fact the Clinton Administration fired over 90 US Attorneys.'

Well I said it...somewhere up thread. But hey, how about the REPUBLICANS mention it once in a while?

No wait....lack of a spine.

Although I agree with your sentiment, I always try to remember that there likely are Republicans, maybe even many of them, who are saying the things we want them to.  The thing is the DBM doesn't have to play their clips or invite them on these shows so unless we go out and dig the information out from other sources we think they aren't doing it.

Again, I don't doubt that there are all too many RINOs more worried about covering their backsides than doing what they should (as in your encounter with the GOP organization over your article), but I we have to try to find and trumpet those that do stand up for our issues when they do.

GREAT POINT!!!

Of course Biden would say that "we" aren't fighting like the Shiites and Sunni...but, I might disagree.

I think it is getting to the point where the Dems are becoming an "enemy" within...and I wouldn't mind them living in their own "country".
