"So who should we consider supporting?"

For those who have their feet planted in reality, the only viable candidate for 2008 is Rudy Giuliani.

We don't deal in wishful thinking, we deal in reality. He is a leader, can beat Hillary, may even have coattails to help get control of Congress back from the Dems.

Now inspite of all Rudy weaknesses there a spirit that rang clear duing the 911 and moved this nation.

You can't erase that and many people still remember.

And I believe in a Shakespear quote..

"To thy ownself be true!" and to me Rudy is more political than being true to what he knows is right.

What a shame he could of had an epiphany on abortion but no Rudy even had to allow for partial birth too! There are other things too but I won't go into it!

That's too bad!

I don't understand the fear of Hillary that prevails among so many conservatives.

She is not going to win. Rudy will tear the Republican party in two.

Rudy has more baggage than Santa on Christmas morning.

He will not win. I for one will not vote for him. I'll support the conservative who will surely rise up and run as a third party candidate against him in the general.

Actually, I was thinking Thompson would make an excellent VP with Duncan Hunter taking the lead.

According to Michael Barone, Rudy would make the GOP bigger and would easily defeat Hillary.

I lived through the Rudy years what a blessing no longer drug dealers on my block, no more squeegy men, who would put dirty water on a drivers car when waiting to go through the tunnels and would not clean it unless a tip!

No more Filthy city hospitals or public place of the city like bus station etc.

The quality of life went up a 100! and crime reduce from about 3000 killing a year down to two hundred and drive buy shooting stopped where many time innocent child were killed even in their own beds when bullets flew through the window!

Pee shows were run out of time square and tourist could visit without surprises etc.

The Homeless were removed from public street no more stink of urine!

Between his cancer and his virginia monologues X wife who is worhtless in my book, I am glad he found a mate Judith.

He wanted a companion, not an opportunist!

>>>>>What would you know your Colorado!

First off, Colorado is my home today --- thank God --- but I was born and raised in NYCity. Queens, Wantaugh and Brooklyn. I grew up with liberals just like Rudy Giuliani and debated them on the issues to adnauseam. I know how liberals think, I know what makes them tick. I know liberals like the back of my hand.

NYCity was a high taxed socialist hell-hole when I lived there, when Rudy left office it weas still a high taxed socialist hell-hole and it remains today, a high taxed socialist hell-hole.

Baker said his wife, former Sen. Nancy Kassebaum Baker, R-Kan., already supports McCain for president and Baker said he too might back McCain if Thompson does not run.

Wow! An endorsement by the Bakers. That'll certainly tip the scales. /s

Why would I care who Thompson "screws up"? Unlike apparently some people here, I am looking for the candidate that can best articulate a solid set of conservative principles, not trying to push some candidate on the world to feed my own ego.

Hunter is his own man. If he can't get anybody to notice him with Thompson in the room, he doesn't deserve to be President.

Thompson does better against Rudy on the FR member polls than either Hunter or Gingrich. That suggests he draws some of the FR Rudy supporters.

I'm guessing the Hunter supporters aren't going to abandon their man this long before the primaries. Although if he can't raise some money, he'll be a footnote by Christmas.

Maybe Thompson is the candidate who takes out Rudy so Romney can ride to victory. Or Maybe Thompson takes out Romney. Who knows at this point?

One thing is clear -- a lot of "supporters" of existing candidates, INCLUDING Rudy, seem to be praying for someone else to enter the race. Gingrich polls remarkably well for a non-candidate who has no chance of winning, and Thompson could well be the front-runner without even entering the race at all.

That tells me that there's room for a candidate, even a conservative candidate, who can stand up, show some real leadership, get recognized as being out in front on something and get the american people on his side. We don't need a "hero", or a liberal. We simply need a candidate who can connect with the people and convince them that the conservative values which we KNOW to be the answer for what ails our country are in fact what is needed.

If you can't sell the truth, you don't deserve to be President. The truth is that abortion is murder, that basic freedom requires that each citizen be allowed to defend themselves by owning a gun if they wish, that religion is in fact the basis for a civilized society, and that personal character is part and parcel of a mindset that respects people and demands respect in return.

A solid conservative who can articulate these truths can't possibly be wrong on the war on terror, and will by definition be a leader who can protect and defend our country.

Frankly, I can't tell if Thompson is that man or not. Hunter hasn't shown it. Gilmore might be the man, or maybe Brownback or Huckabee or even Romney. I have my serious doubts about Gingrich and Rudy, but there's a lot of time for them to prove me wrong.
