Funny how no one mentioned that this would be a great thing to have along the US-Mexico border.

Put a hundred of them on station, instead of missiles launch paint that takes a week to fade away and just tell anyone if they see someone with Dayglo green paint on them to call the Feds.

Save a missile for anyone with a weapon or drugs. They get the badaboom!!!!

SONOBUOY PING!

“The Snark Mk III will fly just before Christmas – after that, we’ll be developing two distinct versions – one for the Army (the Land Snark), and one for the Navy (the Sea Snark), and a civilian version of the Snark is under development and will be unveiled in 2006.

lol. Some UAV footage of some terrorists being wiped out in Iraq. This was an anti-aircraft team wiped out last week by the USAF. The weapon used was the 30mm GAU-8 fitted to an A-10. Those guys didn't even know what hit them.

I like this quote: "It has the potential to be seriously nasty." The nastier they are to our enemies the better, as I see it.

Yup. Even the small, weaponless ones are a gotta have-it item over there. Not surprising.

...one for the Navy (the Sea Snark)...

Sea Snakes have always been stealthy.

...but I'm beginning to think that if you overengineer them, they will be ready for the next war, but never get to the troops in this one.

BTW have you signed up for the 2007 ISDC?

2007 markes the 50yh Anniversary of Space Flight and this year's theme is:

"From Old Frontiers to New: Celebrating 50 Years of Space Flight."

The Final Frontier!

Passenger capability or a massive payload in a UAV opens up alot of possibilities. Also, running on diesel means a very flexible supply chain with front-line army and SOF units.

Too bad it's an overseas builder. Hope that US engine manufacturer has some clout with congress, cause I've heard nothing from DARPA about a US air vehicle like this.

"“The aircraft’s current empty weight is 1060 lb (480kg) and the gross weight is 2500 lb (1133 kg) and our payload is 1500lb (680 kg) which blows anything comparable in the UAV area completely out the door. If we can achieve a reliable 2000lb (907 kg) payload, it will become just that much more capable."

Is it just me...or could this serve as a "search & rescue" vehicle capable of emitting suppression fire...???

There were many comments about the "Snark infested waters" off Cape Canaveral back in the early '60s.

Right. Back in the mid-50s I was stationed at Wright-Patterson, and was working on the guidance system for the Rascal air-launched missile. Other guys in the same office were working on the Snark guidance system. Quite a few Snarks simply spashed in the water right off Canaveral. Lots of jokes about "Snark infested waters."

The Snark unlike the Bomarc was never operational since the liquid fueld IRBMs filled the bill in the late 50s

Didn't the Navy have an air breathing missle in the 50's too? I remember something like "Regulus", not sure if that's right though.

GtG
