Rudy knows how to lead the whole country not just some bible thumpers from KY.

As a bible thumper from KY - I resemble that remark! :-)

In all seriousness, the disdain & disgust that reeked out of your remark disturbs me. I've heard similar remarks from people like Cindy Sheehan & her friends, not to mention Bill Maher, Al Franken & Rosie O-Donald. I've also heard fellow freepers, yourself included, make such remarks.

Gosh, if the republican party is going to start insulting me because of my religion & where I come from - what's the point of me being there? I can go to the next Code Pink meeting and get that kind of treatment.

I remember when I first found Free Republic - it was like a breath of fresh air to be able to share my views with like-minded people. The air's not so fresh around here lately. I respect your support of Guiliani, I will not make fun of your religion & what part of the country you hail from. I won't take myself down to that level.

Y'all have a nice day.

That game gets played both ways, Alice. I've been condemned for my support of Rudy because I'm an Anglican. And it's been done by some people who say they are Evangelical.

Well, if you look at recent election results and Bush's poll numbers, the GOP is at risk of becoming a regional Confederate party. Democrats are moving out of New England into Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, and they're making gains in the plains in places like Montana, Missouri, and Colorado.

Some people think we're losing because we're not conservative enough, as if what sells in Alabama or Idaho sells elsewhere. Branding ourselves as a bunch of mean, angry know-nothings like Ann Coulter is not the way to win national elections.

We need to get back to basics the Republican Party has always had from Lincoln to McKinley to Eisenhower to Reagan -- defense, free enterprise, Constitutional government. We've fallen off track, and the focus on nonsense from Terri Schiavo to stemcells to creationism to rabid calls for mass deportations simply isn't getting the job done. If anything, they alienate voters like Latinos and suburbanites where the GOP has a natural constituency.

Being a Bible thumper from Virginia who went to school in Kentucky, let me clarify.

I grew up in Christian fundamentalism and in the Christian poltiical right. For the most part I still share the same philosophy.

But it is the way in which it is applied that disturbs me. The stridency and the "my way or the highway" position of the political religious right is troublesome. And it's a turn off for a huge portion of the electorate.

The fact remains that Rudy IS the front runner. The fact remains that RUDY is drawing significant amounts of conservative support, including Evangelicals of which I am one.

So pro-life, conservative, evangelicals like myself who see the war on terror and national security the larger issue here really tire of our "brethren" calling us liberals, traitors, baby-killers, etc.

If you can't support Rudy, so be it.

If you have to vote third party, so be it.

If you plan to stay home, so be it. However that also negates your right to comment.

If you find the air not so fresh around here, with a few exceptions, it is not the Rudy supporters stinking it up.

How many times have you been called "abortionist" or "rutard" or "liberal" or "traitor" this week?

Let me tell you something Alice.God bless you and people like you.I wish people were more like bible thumpers in KY. than they are now.Good honest hard working people with Christian values, but I'm afraid that if any democrat wins the WH people like you and me will be completly forgotten and further away from the values and ideals that we feel ARE important.
IMO it took us 50 years to gain control and then blew it in 2 years all because of Bushes incompetence.I believe he is a good man.I think his mangment of the country except for taxes has been horrible. And because of his mis mangment on Iraq and illeagal immigration he let the dems sneak through the door.I belive Rudy is our best chance to at least keep a foothold on those values, although he is not perfect for our ideals,I think he our last best chance, against the left wing anarchist.
God bless you for being a good American from KY.I meant no disrespect but you will hear rhetoric like that in spades if we choose a less than "mainstream" republican.

I agree, but stick with it.

Too many not so cute put downs, and as Rush would say, drive by posts.

Hey- I'm a Bible thumper from Ohio :)

We haven't left the GOP, hopefully the GOP hasn't left us.

We can make a difference if we get the word out that we don't have to settle for a Democrat like Rudy as the next Republican Presidential candidate.

I'm telling everyone I know about Hunter. Most people haven't even heard of him. All they hear is RUDY, RUDY, RUDY. Spread the word.
