Why Rudy?
Pittsburgh Tribune Review ^ | March 10, 2007 | Salena Zito

Posted on 03/10/2007 5:42:54 AM PST by veronica

For the moment, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani sits on double-digit leads over the rest of the Republican presidential-hopeful pack in several national polls.

Why?

"It appears to me that Rudy is going aggressively after the conservative vote," says Pennsylvania Republican and former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum. "He has not ceded that ground to anybody."

Santorum, known nationally for his social conservatism, says Giuliani does a good job of reminding people how he governed as a conservative on crime, welfare and taxes in New York City.

Santorum also believes Giuliani has scored points on social issues with his comments about judges and Supreme Court justices.

"Rudy understands that, on those issues, the courts are where conservatives have been losing the battle," he says. "If he is going to be appointing judges in the Scalia-Thomas (mold), then he is sending a very positive message to conservatives that he understands the importance of having the Constitution interpreted for what it says and not for what people want it to be."

Speaking of the eight years of the Dole Presidency...compare them to the eight years of the buchanan (purist) presidency.

I think they're more closely aligned with the Administrations of President Keyes, don't you?

Great post.

The hatred for Rudy on these threads is so over the top, it's bizarre. And it isn't happening in the real world, or at other conservative sites.

Ronald Reagan on compromise:

Selling out isn't compromise. Let's see what Reagan had to about Rudy-types.

“We will have no more of those candidates who are pledged to the same goals as our opposition and who seek our support. Turning the Party over to the so-called moderates wouldn’t make any sense at all.” --Ronald Reagan

I'll support my choice, but in the end, I won't be part of inflicting a Democrat on the American people. On election day, I'll vote GOP, no matter what.

Calling David Duke...please pick up the courtesy phone in the FR lobby, we have one guaranteed vote for you in '08, if you choose to run for the GOP nomination.

Rudy wants all loyal Republicans to vote for him, the same guy who trashed his own boss at DOJ and then supported Mario Cuomo instead of his own Party's nominee, George Pataki:

Bump.

Congrats. You folks have managed to compare Rudy to Hitler AND David Duke.

Kos applauds you...

Oh yes you will. By supporting RINO Rudy you will indeed be inflicting a Democrat on us. If Rudy gets nominated you can take personal satisfaction in getting this letter from Ms. Rodman.

Dear RINO Rudy Supporters,

I want to thank you for your wonderful support in helping to get me elected POTUS. Bill and I are so thrilled to be back in the White House again. Your active support for Rudy, and getting him nominated, was the key to me winning. Without your help Bill and I would not be here today.

Affectionately Yours,

President Hillary Rodman

P.S. I plan to nominate Rudy to the Supreme Court as soon as there is a vacancy. He will help us tilt the court back in our favor to assure that millions more unborn babies will never see the light of day. After all, it's every woman's right!

P.S.S. As you may recall, my campaign slogan was, "We're Going to Take Things Away From You on Behalf of the Common Good". ALL YOUR POSSESIONS BELONG TO ME---YEEHAAAA!!!!

Veronica states: "One event can radically alter the landscape, as 9-11 did for Rudy". IS THIS TRUE?
Rudy energetically defended NYC Sanctuary City status all the way to the SCOTUS. IMO, he did have an extreme bias against US Immigration Laws and US Citizens' Rights? The Sanctuary City status surely con tributed to the 9/11 attacks, yet it appears that Rudy is the HERO of 9/11? I think those leaders who have supported the policy of Sanctuary Cities for Illegals are to blame as much as any other for 9/11.
So my question is: Has the post 9/11 Rudy addressed his position re cooperation with US Immigration against Illegal immigration? His supporters may deem this question irrelevant, but I don't think I can support anyone that will not defend us against the illegals invasion.

Oh, is that the same Jim who wrote that Bush was a cokehead and he'd never support him?
My goodness, you're quite an ill mannered troll.

Oh that's no troll, trolls serve a useful purpose, they provide cheap 'ZOT' entertainment.

Peach is no troll. She's been here since 1998.

And she hasn't said anything here she wouldn't (or hasn't already) say directly to Jim.

Where did you get that chart? A matrix of issues that depicts the GOP as opposing everything is poorly worded and designed. The Left is the group that opposes progress and reform not the GOP. The first box should be "Pro-Life" - GOP Supports; "Ban on Partial Birth Abortion" - GOP Supports, etc.

(As a bible thumper from KY - I resemble that remark! :-)

In all seriousness, the disdain & disgust that reeked out of your remark disturbs me. I've heard similar remarks from people like Cindy Sheehan & her friends, not to mention Bill Maher, Al Franken & Rosie O-Donald. I've also heard fellow freepers, yourself included, make such remarks.

Gosh, if the republican party is going to start insulting me because of my religion & where I come from - what's the point of me being there? I can go to the next Code Pink meeting and get that kind of treatment.

I remember when I first found Free Republic - it was like a breath of fresh air to be able to share my views with like-minded people. The air's not so fresh around here lately. I respect your support of Guiliani, I will not make fun of your religion & what part of the country you hail from. I won't take myself down to that level.

Y'all have a nice day.)

Let me tell you something Alice.God bless you and people like you.I wish people were more like bible thumpers in KY. than they are now.Good honest hard working people with Christian values, but I'm afraid that if any democrat wins the WH people like you and me will be completly forgotten and further away from the values and ideals that we feel ARE important.
IMO it took us 50 years to gain control and then blew it in 2 years all because of Bushes incompetence.I believe he is a good man.I think his mangment of the country except for taxes has been horrible. And because of his mis mangment on Iraq and illeagal immigration he let the dems sneak through the door.I belive Rudy is our best chance to at least keep a foothold on those values, although he is not perfect for our ideals,I think he our last best chance, against the left wing anarchist.
God bless you for being a good American from KY.I meant no disrespect but you will hear rhetoric like that in spades if we choose a less than "mainstream" republican.

No, because Keyes never got the nomination, unlike the RINOs Ford and Dole, who LOST.

Keep up, eh?

I'm sure Ms. Rodman (assuming you get her elected) will be glad to arrange that for you.
