I think most President's kids make it. I mean accept for that wacko Amy Carter and Ron Reagan, but to me everyone else seems ok. I think that the Kennedy kids (John and Caroline turned out well). Obviously the plane ride was not too smart, but otherwise he seemed decent enough. Chelsea I think had it harder than others because of her crazy parents and she seems adjusted. I think she might even become Republican someday when she goes through a rebellion stage which for some reason has not happend yet. She is one of the only President's Kids to not get into any trouble for alcohol or drugs...interesting.
FDR's five kids had something like nineteen divorces among themselves.
That's just one piece of trivia, but a pretty fun one.
I hate to say this, but while the Carter children's ideas are just as screwed up as their fathers, I think they turned out fine in the sense that they are contributing members of society.
As far as your comment about never being a liberal...well, you forget the other part of that famous saying (badly paraphrased and murkily attributed) but here it is again:
"Anyone who is not a liberal in his youth has no heart. Anyone who remains so as he matures has no brain!"
I'm mostly just kidding, but how one becomes a conservative can take many paths and there is no "perfect" way.
