JACKSON, Miss. (AP) -- Mayor Frank Melton was back on the job Friday after the state Supreme Court ordered his release from jail, where a judge had sent him two days earlier for violating probation.
"It was quite a humbling experience," Melton said after his release Thursday. He said he had helped clean three bathrooms.
Judge Tomie Green ordered Melton's arrest after the flamboyant mayor was accused of violating his probation by breaking curfew during a late-night bar raid with police and traveling out of state for surgery.
The high court vacated that order Thursday without explanation. The mayor's attorneys had argued that Green was biased, a claim Green called "frivolous."
Melton's probation stemmed from a no-contest plea in November to a misdemeanor charge of carrying a pistol on a college campus and guilty pleas to two other misdemeanor weapons violations. The plea deal included probation but spared him a felony conviction that would have forced him from office.

Hizzonor be Fly.
Has Haley Barbour ever made a comment on what he thinks of this mess in Jackson? Just curious.

Melton is actually pretty conservative- he's a multimillionaire broadcaster who got elected and started doing an imitation of the "walking tall" sheriff. Normally I'd applaud someone like him, but he seems borderline unstable. Certainly an interesting cat at any rate.
Seems a car plant is closing in Mexico and is moving it's operation to Mississippi.
I just flat out admire Haley Barbour's leadership capabilities.
He just stays out of Hizzonor's way because he has so much work to do around the State.
For what? Guns?

Certainly you missed the sarcasm and the target. Try our esteemed Congressman Jefferson of Louisiana....(chuckle)
