I am getting a little tired of Ms. Noonan's "inside-the-beltway" moral preening. We desperately need more conservatives like Ann Coulter who are willing to come out swinging and keep on fighting.

As soon as they get to Washington most so-called "conservatives" seem to start caring more about whether they are going to be liked by the "in-crowd" than about doing what's right.

Good article. Those defending Ann have basically used the position that "well the dems do it." I was listeneing to Hannity last night (he's tape delayed in my market) and he was going on with all the examples of the libs who do the type of satire that Ann does, so it's cool if she does it.

We went through a period in the 90's where the excuse of everyone does it wasn't accepted. What happened?

I don't understand this holy mentality. The dims have been throwing that garbage around for a generation and the Repubs have refused to fight back. Heck the repubs were smeared out of an election and they still refuse to fight back.
This next election cycle will prove to be the worst in modern times and if these people want to see an R standing in the end, they better get their mud ready because the Clintons won't hesitate to cover everyone in mud, including themselves, to gain power.
I'd like to see more aggressive Republicans out there, like Ingraham and Hannity who can argue and fight without being abrasive.

Coulter and Maher both have their schtick that they can't deviate from. If either one dropped the insults and name-calling then they would be failures because neither one is capable of serious discourse. If Coulter had to write a measured column like Charles Krauthamer does she'd fail miserably. If Maher had to appear on FOX as a serious political commontator he'd choke. They are what they are, they both make a ton of money at it, but we shouldn't mistake either for a serious journalist.

"Many conservatives" are upset with Coulter????? Maybe a dozen or so "their turn to curtsy, their turn to bow 'conservo'-wimps but not "many", not now or ever because genuine conservatives are not turbo-mannered wimps.

If this Caldera guy is one of the critics, that says a lot more negative about him than it does about Ann.

As to Peggy Noonan, she ought to get more invitations to left cocktail parties in Manhattan. What a shame, Peggy used to be a contenda. Maybe someday she will be one again.

Its time we realised we run human beings who are conservative....not sterling saints.

Between the limp wristed apologizing and the holier than thou attitudes we keep falling on our swords and missing the objective which is POWER.

Without it you have nothing. The libs may not do much I like but they don't lose site of the objective, they understand whats at risk. If we keep looking for saints and lead any "controversy" with an apology we might as well roll up the sidewalks and go home. It's politics it will never be pretty but it is the only and best way we have, its time to develope a hard shell and not care if we're liked. In both cases, Mr. Maher and Ms. Coulter, when I heard them, I winced. Did you? I thought so. In modern life we wince a lot. It's not the worst thing, but it's better when something makes you smile.

Did what they said make me wince? No. I actually laughed at Coulter's remarks. I guess it all depends on the forum. Saturday Night Live did a skit when the Dems took over of Nancy Pelosi and her new aides - which were portrayed as S&M leather faggots. Everyone laughed. SNL also did a skit where the person playing the One Who Must Not Be Name goes on a profanity laced tirade. Was anyone offended? No.

Now, we get to Mahr's remarks. I have to think hard of any conservatives that threaten or wish death or harm on liberals. I have come up with two. Ann Coulter when she said that McVeight should have parked his truck outside of the NYT building. And Jesse Helms when he said Clinton needs to bring a bodyguard down to Carolina when he visited. Off the top of my head, I can come up with lots of Dems who wish death on conservatives. Alec Baldwin. Randi Rhodes. Spike Lee. The guy down in Florida who wanted Rummy shot in the head, against a wall. Those who put a crosshairs on President Bush's head when he first got elected. The guy who made the film showing President Bush assasinated. The writer who wondered where John Wilkes Booth and Lee Harvey Oswald were when he needed them. There are more.

So what is worse. You decide. I will say the only bad thing about Coulter's remarks was her timing. If she had not said them, maybe there would have been more concentration on Mahr's remarks. Okay, that was just a joke.

What language butchery you engage in! If you properly parse Ann's statement you will note that Ann did not *suggest* that John Edwards was a faggot. She, in fact, said it was socially inappropriate to use that word to describe him.

Ann was guilty of only one thing. Unlike the Bill Maher, Ann did not use the passive-aggressive verb tense and phrase formations.

Nor did you mention Barney Frank's comments. Now Barney, of course, is a well-known faggot and fag, so nothing bad may be sad of him, if one may use, that many commas, in one sentence, describing a homosexual of notoriety and power. Still, his celebration of the wished-for death of Mr. Cheney was even more over-toppish than the master of passive-aggression Bill Maher's.

The old bat needs to keep her sermons on topics that have some relevance. I see this as an attempt for Noonan to cash in on a little controversy to get a few readers.

The immense egos (and small intellects) of the pompous twits on the left need to be deflated every now and then by any means available, and Edwards' blow dry hair do look is as good a lever as anything else. How many leftist comentators made fun of Tammy Faye Baker's makeup?

George Bush and his "new tone in Washington / turn the other cheek" pablem resulted in the Republicans losing Congress and Bush being in the toilet as far as support. Clinton is like a step-brother with mommie and poppy? Ted Kennedy and movies in the White house?

Bill Maher, on HBO, said a lot of lives would be saved if Vice President Cheney had died, and Ann Coulter, at a conservative political meeting, suggested John Edwards is a "faggot."

I like Peggy but this is something else that ticks me off. We have a flopped joke in which a trial lawyer is called a childish name (albeit with not any real difference in meaning than Rush calling him the "Breck Girl" and Laura using that Silky Pony song as his them.).

Then we have Maher wishing terrorists succeeded in killing another human being, not to mention a leader of our nation.

And Peggy is implying there is some sort of equivilancy.

And Peggy, I don't think Maher was joking.
