And I think you need to talk to Cubans emigres themselves and see how they describe their homeland: decadent (leadership) and macabre (the whole sick communist system)

Hint: invest in a dictionary.

A vibrant economy leads to increased democracy. That is China.

China is democratizing? In what way, exactly? This is an intriguing theory, please explain.

Also, please explain Russia, which has a rapidly growing economy and is decreasingly democratic.

To compare Guatemala...a free nation...with Cuba, a oppressed nation with a degenerate leadership, is ridiculous and ignorant.

Well, you were the one who made economic vitality the gold standard of asylum laws, not I.

My points stand. Your statements about Russia and China are so out of whack ...it's bizarre.

I don't need to answer your straw man absurd questions.

You are the one who has to do some boning up on things.

Come back when you can admit you were wrong.

You don't want to answer my questions, because you have no answers.

To your mind, immigrants from Cuba should be granted political asylum because Cuba is a communist dictatorship, but immigrants from China should not be granted political asylum, even though China is a communist dictatorship, because... the economy is doing well.

...Yet you have no problem excluding people from other states where the economic is not doing so well. And you equate democracy with economic growth, which is obvious nonsense.

Yet rather than defend or explicate your position, you call me names and run away. Brilliant.

You want me to "admit" that China is a democracy? Whatever you're smoking, it sure ain't legal.

As I have already replied: your statements about Cuban refugees dittoes China and Russia are out of whack with reality. Your world reality is based on a naive anachronistic notion of Cold War politics. The only significant nations that still fall into that conundrum are Cuba and North Korea.

(I won't even talk about those other totalitarian regions- the Islamic ones.)

Really? You think dissidents are treated any better in China than they are in Cuba? You're nuts.

Your world reality is based on a naive anachronistic notion of Cold War politics.

No, actually it isn't. For one, in the last 18 months, I've actually been to all three countries mentioned (Russia 4 times, in fact). Have you?

Lots of people travel around the world. That fact alone makes a person a traveler certainly not an expert on political affairs.

What are you - fed ex or even worse a State dept flunkie?

"I'm angry that Bush has continued this disgusting Clinton policy."

Not much different then the one Reagan had.

-"It's a mass migration plan in general. It doesn't have to be from Cuba," said Coast Guard Rear Adm. David Kunkel, director of the Homeland Security southeastern task force.

Yep! He's right. It could be from...the Bahamas? Bermuda? Antigua?

I think it's hilarious...and I spent mannnnnnnny years in the Coast Guard.

To be honest, if I were going to smuggle some Cubans in, I would do it during such a drill as well. Everyone's too busy playing the game to do their damned job.
