The main reason they are doing it in China, no doubt, is that they can't get it past the FDA in the US. It certainly has nothing to do with us "stopping stem cell research" since that never happened. The only thing we stopped was federal government funding of new line embryonic stem cell research.

Stem cells from umbilical cord blood will be injected into the spinal cords of the participants, who will also be given lithium to help stimulate cell regeneration, said Wise Young, a leading neuroscientist and spinal cord injury researcher.

This is amusing in the sense that the Chinese are known for dining on umbilical cords (harvested by doctors for extra income), which are supposed - in Chinese medical lore - to have major beneficial health benefits. I can see why so many Chinese donors materialized for this experiment - just about about Chinese person I know has a child-like faith in the efficacy of traditional Chinese quackery cures.

I just sent my state senator and assemblywoman info on ADULT stem cell successes.

New York State's antilife Gov. Spitzer is pushing embryonic sc research, even though it is immoral and has never helped a single person.
