Actually, I did miss your sarcasm, because there was a lot of truth in your statement.

McCain is out of it...there are only two people left in the country that want him as POTUS: Don Imus and Tim Russert.

Giuliani will be more trouble...

Yeah, but Miss Wyman left him because of his political activity. Mr. Reagan never wanted the divorce and tried to patch it up.

Marriage is a public institution, when you fail your spouse, you broke your word to the public. Not a very popular view now, but for 2,000 years, that is the way it was viewed.

Also, Newt is apologizing for his behavior, nothing wrong with extending forgiveness. You do not have to be God in order to forgive, otherwise the Lord's prayer is in vain...

Thanks for the post, a most interesting read. This subject has been in the back of my mind for eons, i.e. the what and or how of Newt's spiritual journey and how it related to the unanswered question of past behavior. Refreshing candor from a politician to say the least, even if he doesn't run, he is modeling behavior for future candidates to emulate.

After hearing Pat Robinson on Glenn Beck tonight, I get a sense that both he and Dr. Dobson may be in his corner. This race is FAR from over.....

I LOVE NEWT! Back in 1994 - 1996, I kept a scrapbook of all NEWT stuff. Unfortunately, I think I threw it away when I was cleaning out the garage a few months ago - or, I might have stored it, can't remember which. I got to see him in person at at train stop in Glendale, CA in August 1996 - the "victory express." James Rogan, George Schultz and Jeanne Kirkpatrick were there too. I took LOTS of pictures (I ought to scan some and post them to my about page) See my about page and there's a picture of me and Jack Kemp taken at the Burlingame Convention (California0 back in January 1996... that was little 22 year old me. Well, I wasn't exactly little. Anyway, it was an exciting day with Newt there at the train stop, such excitement in the air. I'd vote for Newt in a heartbeat.

I have had to put those commandments of forgiveness to the test very recently. I was treated very badly by several whom I thought were lifelong friends. It was a very costly betrayal and hurt me more than anything that's happened to me in my life. True forgiveness and loving one's enemies in such a situation is the hardest thing one will ever do - and also the most rewarding.

One day, Michael Reagan will be our President.

I like your login, however wouldn't "Karnack the Magnificent" be more appropriate? lol!

Thank you so much for posting this. Something had been holding me back when it came to Newt (if he ran for president) and I think that this addresses a lot of what I was concerned about.

It sure is! How can we expect God to forgive us if we cannot forgive others? I've been in the same situation as you describe & I can tell you, harboring ill will and not forgiving only hurts yourself - hate & anger will eat you alive. It's such a sweet release and weight off your chest to forgive others who've done you wrong.

God is great! By forgiving us, he shows us how to forgive others.

Seriously I think I've had everyone closest to me betray me at one time or another in life.

Or at least it seems that way.

Taught me let go of grudges and trust God to get me through.

It's been a real key to happiness in life.

David was under a different dispensation, a different covenant. Under the old covenant, because of the hardness or their hearts, God allowed divorce. It is just common sense as well that living in sexual "liberation" that King David lived in would be considered sexual promiscuity under the new covenant. Christ taught against divorce and remarriage, and I'm not a Catholic and find annulment (for myself) to be a rather hypocritical loophole, or it would be FOR ME, not necessarily for anyone else who believed differently. I have to answer for my own conscience, for what I believe to be a sin for me. I am not the judge of anyone else, the Lord is able to make them stand and it is not my place. - Protestant ministers of today preach a tickle your ears message that tends to result in a musical chairs marriage condition in the church. In the mainline southern Baptist church I finally got up and left, I am fairly convinced that one of the divorcees had her cap set for my husband (or the nearest available promising gent) and, furthermore, I am also convinced that if it had progressed (regressed) for much longer and she had been successful, the preacher would have upheld it and labeled me as an heretic for daring to leave his "reservation". When in doubt, follow the money and the agenda. I was a nobody who didn't control the purse strings, but I did work hard to help make our money. My husband was the money bag (they thought) and the divorcee was a big part of their musical program - you know how it is, everybody now is a singing star). I got pushed too far in any event, whatever the true intent, it sure seemed crummy.

David was under a different dispensation

I am well aware of that.

Rom 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

When in doubt, follow the money and the agenda.

Been there done that.

I have to answer for my own conscience, for what I believe to be a sin for me.

If you believe it is a sin, then it is, and that is true for you whether or not scripture expressly forbids it.

What of the divorced person who comes to Christ after his second marriage, should he then divorce his wife? Sort of a conundrum there, don't you think?
