but really what sort of caloric intake is required to SUSTAIN that weight? it seems that weight loss would be inevitable if you just cut that down gradually, doesn't it?

actually, it takes very few calories to sustain that weight. His metabolism is very slow, because he does not move around much (obviously). Once the fat is in place, it does not require any further energy expenditure to keep it there.
