Obama was an Illinois State Senator who ran for the US Senate in 2004 when that seat opened up. His opponent was Jack Ryan, a businessman who was one married to actress Jeri Ryan of Star Trek fame.

During the campaign, the media was successful in unsealing divorce documents about the Ryans where allegations of sexual misconduct were stated as reason for the divorce. This news forced Ryan out of the race, to be replaced at the last minute by Alan Keyes, who was not a resident of Illinois. Keyes was tarred as a carpetbagger, and Obama won the election.

Again, it was another example of a Democrat political assassination of the Republican in order to win the race. I can't say for sure that Ryan would have won had this not happened, but it's obvious that taking out your opponent early by any means necessary will guarantee that you win.

In 2006, we've seen this tactic used with Allen in Virginia, Foley in Florida, and DeLay in Texas.

Not sure. The Foley hit had Rahm Emmanuel all over it, so that would be the Clinton Machine. DeLay was the work of Ronnie Earle and his abuse of the Texas grand jury system(don't know his affiliations). The Allen thing was the WaPo taking advantage of a gaffe. The Ryan hit was more devious, since the Chicago press had to work to unseal the docs. Don't know if anyone was behind that, or it was just media bias in wanting to help the Democrat win.

Unable to post from a blog, but I am amazed at the story that he thinks he can ignore parking fines for 17 years. That is an interesting story. Twenty two or so tickets simply ignored til he decided to run for prez! What is it with liberals???????
