Shooting Elephants in a Barrel [Ann Coulter]
Human Events ^ | March 7, 2007 | Ann Coulter

Posted on 03/07/2007 3:56:09 PM PST by kabar

Lewis Libby has now been found guilty of perjury and obstruction of justice for lies that had absolutely no legal consequence.

It was not a crime to reveal Valerie Plame's name because she was not a covert agent. If it had been a crime, Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald could have wrapped up his investigation with an indictment of the State Department's Richard Armitage on the first day of his investigation since it was Armitage who revealed her name and Fitzgerald knew it.

With no crime to investigate, Fitzgerald pursued a pointless investigation into nothing, getting a lot of White House officials to make statements under oath and hoping some of their recollections would end up conflicting with other witness recollections, so he could charge some Republican with "perjury" and enjoy the fawning media attention.

As a result, Libby is now a convicted felon for having a faulty memory of the person who first told him that Joe Wilson was a delusional boob who lied about his wife sending him to Niger.

This makes it official: It's illegal to be Republican.

Only a comedian can come to the conclusions that Anne does. Her continued employment can only be explained by people liking skinny blondes with crazy eyes, anyone else would have been fired a long, long time ago.

Sounds like you are suffering Coulter-envy too. If you can sell five NYT best sellers, be one of the most sought after speakers, and command handsome appearance fees, then I will listen to you. NOthing succeeds like success.

If we're going to appoint these guys, we have to limit the scope of their investigation so that you don't end up with crap like this. Why we keep making this mistake over and over again is beyond me.

That's up to Congress and the WH.

You would think that Libby being a high priced lawyer would have done a better job of protecting himself. I guess he who has himself as a client has a fool for a lawyer.

This reminds me of the Martha Stewart case. Useless, absolutely useless. Take their money!

They were dealt a total loser of a PR hand by a "News Media"

Please tell me when that is not going to be the case? Turn on nearly any national news show and you will be treated to someone foaming at the mouth with hatred toward Bush and all things republican and conservative.

If you are waiting on them to be fair, you better get used to losing.

Someone woke up on the wrong side of the rock this morning. (quote from the caveman can do it commercial) Let me ask you one question, who put Fitzgerald in charge of this case? If you follow this question you may find that the buck does stop at Bushes desk.

When the first fraudulent assault was launched against the president for his "16 words," the administration should have vigorously defended the facts as they knew them. They could and should have pointed out that the statement was NOT based solely on the phony Niger letter which formed the basis for the attack against them. There was other evidence and the Brits still stand by their other evidence. We could have too. But the bungling White House PR apparatus failed to do so. Instead they were silent.

It was worse than that. Tenet said it was a mistake in his July 11, 2003 press release. This was a major mistake, or more conspiratorially, a big assist to those who wanted to use this story to take down the WH. The big question is why and how this press release came about. Did the CIA clear this with the WH. I assume they did.

Great point.

Did you close your sarcasm tag on the rest? ;-)

Agreed, but Bush wants to pass a comprehensive immigration reform bill and keep the money flowing for the Iraq war. He also may be intimidated by fear of possible impeachment hearings.

It is very mysterious that so many Republicans who could do something about the the DemonRATs, who get away with murder, do nothing. Instead of raising a voice to get the ball rolling against the DemonRATs, they sit back in their armchairs, stare forward in numb detachment and let the true patriots like Ann Coulter, set the record straight. And, those whose rise to political power is nothing more than to suck air and take up space, are no more than eunuchs not even worthy to carry Ann's water.

You really should be kicked head over tail off FR. Actually, it's long overdue.

Thank you for your opinion, pardon if I disagree.

This bears repeating from Rush today: Exerpt:
Rush:
One of the things that concerns me is that the left is doing a pretty good job of insulating themselves from election results. They own universities. The faculty, the administration, the curriculum, they own it. They own who gets in through affirmative action, racial preferences, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. They pretty much control the judiciary, the legal system. The media is another. In terms of nationwide Big Media, the left has it, and they're not subject to who wins elections. College campi, faculty and curricula are not subject to who wins elections. The legal system -- other than the appointments of certain judges -- and lawyers out there, public interest lawyers, ACLU type lawyers, are not subject to who wins elections.

So even when they lose elections, they still control the bureaucracies at state, the CIA, and the Pentagon. These are Clinton holdovers, career liberals who target those jobs for the express purpose of controlling government and amassing power. They're there regardless who wins elections. If our side wins, they start undermining it. Take a look at the last five, six years of the Bush administration. All of that is outside the arena of elections. So even when we win, we still have these liberals that are untouchable, that elections don't touch. When we get a president who is undermined by his, quote, unquote, "own administration," that leads people who supported the president who think he runs the whole government to say, "Well, there must be something wrong with this guy if his own people are trying to sabotage him," which is not the case.

So the real question is: What do we do about entrenched liberalism that is out of the reach of elections? That is the next area of important focus.

uptoolate:
This is where the next fight is. Win your local school board. Urge your Conservative children to become lawyers, teachers, professors, and scientists (especially the climate type). Infiltrate the media. Start your own media. Pay attention to the judges on the ballots. Someday they might be "appointees" for a President. We need to take back every area Rush has stated. And yes, we still need to win the elections.

Thanks for the back-up on the matter of special prosecutors.

I absolutely disagree with your take on Ann...

Ann's an entertainer and a polemicist, and I think that her conservatism is more of an act than a statement of genuine belief.

Also, her cadre of FReeper "Internet boyfriends" are really annoying.

There is nothing the Administration could of done about it

Unfortunately, you are dead wrong. There was never any need for a special prosecutor in this case. Justice had Armitage's confession he was the source before they appointed Fitzgerald and they knew Plame did not fall under the Agent act. The case was closed the day Armitage confessed. Instead the Admin kowtowed to the Left and destroyed a man's life in the process. Is this just my opinion? No. It's the opinion of DAVID BOISE, GORE's RECOUNT LAWYER.

Nah, I've got my own money. Not as much, mind you, but I'm doing alright.

I just think that her act is, well, an act. She takes extreme positions and makes extreme statements so that she can sell her books, not out of any conviction.
