Morning MLC...

I can't watch AI. Being a voice teacher, I find most female performances to sound the same. All belt and lavish vocal gymnastics. Somebody please sing the melody already.

The other night I watched "Celtic Woman". Pure tone, honest melodies, delighted audience. The songs made me weep as if my heart was singing "with" them. Not powerful voices, yet so pleasing to listen to.

You could not be more RIGHT about melody. That's why people like Rod Stewart (!) are doing album upon album of "old standards" and selling them like hotcakes. People are HUNGRY for melody.

End of rant.

AI is like a comedy for me. I love it. Some good singers are there, but the rest are hacks.

I saw 'Celtec Women', and I was not that impressed. Just generic fluff to me. They sing in tune, can be pleasing, pretty to look at, but most of the show is artificial showmanship I get bored with. They remind me of Andre Rieu, the Johann Strauss impersonator. Ick. I once did for a Three Mo' Tenors concert, and even though they had pretty good voices, it drew a large crowd, I get bored with the glitz. I want meat, I want substance--I want the entree, not just the dessert. I want "Die Walkure", not "The Lion King".
