One inch of snow delays Senate voting
Christina Bellantoni, Capitol Hill correspondent, The Washington Times ^ | March 7, 2007 | Edcoil

That horrible Washington weather.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid took to the Senate floor this morning to explain why the scheduled 10 a.m. vote on a homeland security measure would have to take place at 1 p.m. instead.

Noting it might seem strange for those outside the Beltway that a little white powder falling from the sky could cripple Senate operations, the Nevada Democrat said Washington is "different from a lot of other places."

He added that some might scratch their head at "an inch or two" of snow creating "all the pause, but it does." He said many senators and their staffers live in Virginia, and added that one mystery senator is "stuck on a train because of the bad weather." (Reid's office promised a call back to identify the commuting lawmaker)

"Make a long story really short, we have essential staff that's not here right now," Reid said, wearing his signature frown. "Those are the facts of life in the bitter winter of an inch of snow in Washington."

Northern Virginia(20 miles west of Crapitol Hill) has ZERO accumulation.

Hey, but good thing they closed down all the schools. Don't want junior to have to chance it walking/riding to school in this 35 degree, ZERO accumulation "storm" we're having.

As I sit in my office looking out onto Connecticut Avenue, there is nothing on the street or the sidewalk. There is maybe 1/16th of an inch on the landscaping. None of these people has to commute in from anywhere. They all have houses or apartments in the District and I dare say, none of them ever have to pick up a shovel like the rest of us "little people."

What a bunch of wimps. I'm disgusted with the lot of them.

Heck, anything to keep them away, means they won't be passing anymore stupid laws. We need more snow in DC.

That's because we are the smart people and can handle it. They have to be spoon-fed and have their hands held.

Dear Washington Post,
I only have enough toilet paper for two weeks, and they are predicting up to one inch of snow! Whatever shall I do?

Dear Washington Post,
It's Tuesday and they are predicting one inch of snow on Wednesday. I need to abandon my car NOW! Is the Wilson Bridge or the American Legion Bridge a better place?

Dear Washington Post,
They are expecting an inch of snow today, so I may be trapped in my house for anywhere up to twelve hours. It's time for the newscasters to roam the aisles of Blockbuster, interviewing those of us who suffered from "cabin fever" on how we coped. How do I get in on that action? I want to be on TV!

Welcome to winter in DC.

Dear Washington Post,

Please forgive me for the double-post, but the blizzard has freaked me out. Where can I get free treatment for PTSD?

My commute into DC from Annapolis this morning took about 50 percent longer than normal. It was snowing, but there was no accumulation.

There is a saying here that rainfall causes a 20 point drop in the IQ of the average DC commuter. I believe that. I also believe that the IQ drop from snowfall is closer to 50 points. That puts quite a few drivers into negative territory, which accounts for much of what I witnessed on the roads this morning.

One inch of snow? I'm in Central New York and we had at least 8 more inches on Monday. We've had approximately 115 inches this winter so far. Not as much as other places in NY State, but enough for me. Yesterday we had minus 25 degrees windchill. Today we've got a heatwave going...1 degree windchill. Sure wish some of that global warming would head my way.

Wow, one could probably not be able to tell the color of a car with a dumping like that.

Did the snowplows hit the streets due to this disaster???
