Rudy & The Right - An Equal Among Sinners
NY Post ^ | 3/7/07 | Zev Chafets

Posted on 03/07/2007 4:39:53 AM PST by areafiftyone

How can the gun-controlling, abortion-supporting, gay-friendly Rudy Giuliani be 25 percentage points ahead of John McCain, his nearest GOP presidential competitor, in the latest Newsweek poll?

Answer: Contrary to popular belief, evangelicals (who comprise the party's base) are fully capable of chewing gum and voting at the same time.

No, evangelicals haven't abandoned the faith-based domestic agenda that brought them to the polls for Bush in 2004. But, in wartime, they have other concerns as well.

I saw this on display last year when, at a D.C. evangelical banquet, Rudy stole the show from (just-indicted) Tom DeLay. DeLay spoke in the emotional cadences of the southern church; Giuliani sounded like a Brooklyn civics teacher. But Rudy got the bigger ovation.

Once again, much of the audience at last weekend's CPAC convention in Washington was social conservatives, but once again, Rudy refused to pander to them. "We disagree on maybe 20 percent of the issues," he acknowledged. For this, he was rewarded with cheers and an impressive second-place finish in the convention's straw poll.

Giuliani's honesty wasn't an act of simple courage.

The ex-mayor is far too calculating for that. He knows - as the other Republicans are now realizing - that, all things being equal, wartime leadership is the most important issue for evangelicals.

And, in this race, all things are pretty much equal, at least among the major candidates: They're all sinners. Sure, Rudy is a big-city Catholic. But Mitt Romney is a big-city Mormon, a religion many evangelicals see as "heretical." Even those who'll overlook theology are highly skeptical of Romney's recent breathless conversion to the Christian right's social agenda. Nobody likes a flip-flopper from Massachusetts.

" Rudy will appoint strict constructionists. That is good. Imagine who Hildebeast or Osamma would appoint?"

In his own words he says Presidents appoint Judges that believe the same things they do. That means he will appoint anti-gun, pro-abortion, pro-queer-agenda Judges.

You can expect he will make those choices in he cabinet as well.

"They live by fake popularity polls and try to stop all talk about issues."

Georgia? You must stick out like a sore thumb in your state.

Another article stated that 2 out of 3 Republicans do not know that Rudy is pro-abortion, pro-gay rights and anti-gun.

Charlie Crist, Gov of Fl, is trying to close a loophole in florida where child molesters can legally carry firearms. Friggin gun-grabber!!
And since Rudy doesn't hate gay people....well that's it for me! No vote from me. (/sarcasm)

Obama screwed himself up on being himself. He was speaking at a mainly black audience and started talking in half english to make himself fit in better. Rush played the clip.

Evangelicals gave us Carter and Clinton. Now they want to shove Giuliani down our throats.

I know that excites the extreme left wing loons here at FR, but count me out.

How many terrorists has Rudy the Terrorist Slayer actually sent to Allah, anyway?

We keep hearing stories of his fabled warrior skills, but the last I saw the score was something like terrorists: 2742, Giuliani: 0.

I know he beat up the squeegee men. Maybe we ought to count them.

Charlie Crist...pro-life, pro-gun, anti-gay.

Florida don't vote for gun banners.

He is trying to close a loop hole for some child molesters and other crime ridden scum from legally being able to obtain carry permits. He's a gun grabber. Anyway you look at it, he's a gun grabber like Rudy....any laws restricting people from owning guns is a gun restricting/grabbing anti gun politician.

By the way, did you hear Crist's state to state speech? He wants to increase teachers pay, lower class size and put millions to fix the global climate change.

Which is also why the Guiliani camp is trying to sandbag as many primaries as early a possible in order to financially shut out the other candidate.

It prevents retail face to face handshake campaigning.

Most everyone that is pro-gun doesn't want criminals carrying guns. Even the NRA and the GOA support that.

Child molesters are violent criminals and shouldn't be allowed to own guns. Good for Charlie Crist for standing with honest gun owners on that issue.

FALSE.

Evangelicals recognize that war is perpetual but not all battles are with visible enemies.

Evangelicals know that all things are not equal--God is sovereign.

Evangelicals know that SPIRITUAL leadership is the most important issue and that 'blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD.'

Evangelicals know that if Rudy and his ilk are 'Republicans' then the GOP has been hijacked and must either be liberated from their clutches--or abandoned--MUCH PREFERABLY the former.

I have no interest in Crist on other issues, I was only correcting the anti-gun statement.

Crist isn't the topic of this thread anyway.

He might make a difference.
Will he preach an aggressive War on Terror and call it by name The War on Islamic Fascism?
Will he preach the reform of the Federal Government so that it doesn't waste so much money and isn't so intrusive?
Will he support school vouchers, without using them as a way of taking control of private schools?

I'm almost entirely against Rudy, but I CAN be sold on him. My mind is open. I think he ought to be a Democrat (I think he WANTS to be a Democrat...). But the War is the most important issue and a good war leader president could win me.
So far, though, he's totally failed.
