His opening statement portrayed Libby as a "victim" of Cheney's office. It was utterly stupid as a strategy.
I agree and I think he handled this case about as poorly as it could have been handled. Wells is a Democrat, and it appears he was more interested in proving Cheney and the Administration were guilty rather than pleading Libby innocent. He should have gone after Cooper and Russell and shown them for the scoundrels they are. Matthew Cooper wasn't sweating bullets before he appeared before the GJ because he was being honest. If you read a lot of his quotes, it's obvious he was not telling the truth.
If you want to know about the social elites in DC, read "Washington Life Magazine". You'll find a few pictures of Laura Bush performing her duties, but you'll find Mrs. Tim Russert (Maureen Orth), Mrs. Ben Bradlee (Sally Quinn),Mrs. Alan Greenspan (Andrea Mitchell), the Matthew Coopers...his wife being the notorious Mandy Grunwald, and other media elites on the social scene. Knowing how Valerie and Joe Wilson sought the limelight and social position; can you really believe they didn't know these people? I'd be willing to bet that Tim Russert not only knew about the Wilsons' agenda, but he knew and knows Joe Wilson! What goes around comes around, and I hope I live to see some of these people answering for their dishonesty.
I was thinking someone would have corrected you by now but since not I'll point out you are wrong. Cheney was portrayed as supporting Libby all the way.
