To: Jedi Master Pikachu

I suspect Taiwan has been afraid of China for a long time. My friend has spent many years getting his entire family out of there for that very reason. Like all men in Taiwan he was in the military. Apparently, there has been a pseudo-war between the two countries for a very time including, mock battles on the small islands in the strait.

They built their first research reactor in 1956. They ran a full scale nuclear research program from then until Chiang Ki Shek's death in 1975. In the early 80s they were apparently still experimenting on plutonium. They have 3 declared civilian plants with 2 operating reactors each, generating 20% of their electric power.
