Giuliani Estranged From His Children

Some Say Personal Problems May Hurt Prospects

CBS News

NEW YORK (March 5) -- It doesn't look like Rudy Giuliani's two children will have a role in his presidential campaign. According to press reports, the GOP frontrunner's third marriage has alienated his son, Andrew, 21, and daughter, Caroline, 18, from their father.

Giuliani's 21-year-old son, Andrew, told the New York Times that he would be too busy working on his golf game to participate in his father's presidential campaign.

"There's obviously a little problem that exists between me and his wife," the younger Giuliani told the newspaper. "And we're trying to figure that out. But as of right now it's not working as well as we would like."

Giuliani's marriage to his third wife, Judith Nathan, followed his divorce from Donna Hanover, the mother of Andrew and Caroline.

In 2000, Giuliani announced during a live TV interview that he planned to divorce Hanover. She responded by publicly accusing Giuliani of adultery.

Caroline Giuliani has not spoken publicly, but the Times and New York's tabloid newspapers reported that she was also alienated from her father as a result of his marriage to Nathan.

The New York Daily News reported that Giuliani rarely spends time with his children and that he had failed to attend many important events in their lives, including Andrew's golf tournaments and Caroline's school plays.

Andrew Giuliani is a sophomore at Duke and a member of the school's golf team. Caroline attends a private Catholic school in Manhattan. She will attend Harvard University in the fall. Giuliani has had no comment on his relationship with his children.

Giuliani holds a huge lead in the polls over GOP presidential rival John McCain, but some political analysts believe the former New York Mayor's estrangement from his children and other personal problems is bound to inflict political damage.

Political analyst Charles Cook told Newsday that the latest twist would hurt Giuliani with the GOP's conservative voters.

"This is just going to be one of a thousand cuts," Cook told the newspaper. "This will just sort of fit into a whole constellation of issues that work against someone winning a conservative party's nomination, a party that thinks of itself as a pro-family party. This just makes it really hard."

Rudy must be feeling like King Lear right about now:

How sharper than a serpent's tooth it is To have a thankless child!

Who do you suppose is paying the pricey tuition for these two brats, one at Duke, and next year, the other at Harvard?

Folks, think about it. Hillary can beat just about anyone we put against her but Rudy. Why do you think the MSM is attacking Rudy now? Do you think it might be so we abandon him and go with someone they can beat?

....Ronald Reagan was totally dismissed by his daughter Patti Davis and actually wrote a book bashing some of the family...

You people really have to stop using Ronald Reagan in comparison to Rudi/Judi.

Ronald was in love with his first wife, she had an affair and left him. No strike for Ronnie.

He married Nancy Davis and was totally, madly in love with her for the rest of his life. No strike for Ronnie.

His two kids with Nancy were children of the 1960's and no different from a great number of children during that time who made a living out of fighting authority. This may be a strike for Ronnie but it would be his first one with his family.

Rudi has a lifelong pattern of being a bad husband to several wives.

It is the pattern, not the isolated events.

Ever since the polls showing Rudy beating Hillary came out the Clinton attach machinery has been in high gear.

Yep. This is going to be the nastiest campaign in history.

Is there anyone out there old enough to remember "little" Andrew at Rudy's mayoral inauguration? The kid was a monster. LOL!

"Rudys personal life is really biting him in the afterburner"

You might be able to get away with being Bill Clinton X 2 if you're a Democrat. But too bad for Rudy, there lots of Republicans who believe that if you can't manage your family, you shouldn't be promoted to bigger things.

There is no question Rudy's support will erode. The questions are "how fast?" and "how deep?"

"Rudys personal life is really biting him in the ass."

I think the Clintons are afraid of Rudy. Their internal polls probably show that they can beat a Conservative.

Rudy's cancer will act up and he will be out of this race by October.

Rudys personal life is really biting him in the ass.

Lousy grammar, swearing, and forgetting that two of Reagan's kids were an embarrassment and at times estranged from him and it didn't seem to hurt his presidency any.

Hillary can beat just about anyone we put against her but Rudy.

I disagree. Democrats like the idea of her a lot more than they actually like her.

Charlie Cook is famous for making predictions that were incorrect.

According to this, Charlie Cook better buy a Schwinn.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/24/AR2006102401248_pf.html

"I would give McCain a 60, 65 percent chance of winning the Republican nomination," he disclosed. By contrast, he added, "I'll win the Tour de France before Rudy Giuliani wins the Republican nomination."

"I have problems with my father," Andrew told ABC. "But it doesn't mean he won't make a great President."

Hillary is doing quite well at losing support all by herself.

I dont buy this "The Clintons are Skeered of Rudy" stuff.
Obama is trouncing her too and Evan Bayh would trounce them all

As one who has been involved in court proceedings (as expert witness) in custody cases, I can tell you there are many, many bitter women who will go to extreme and prolonged lengths to alienate children from their father. The woman who fall into this category feel that since she hates the father, the children should as well.

i notice they conveniently left out the line where his son said that his rift with his father didn't mean that he didn't think that Rudy would be a great President. kind of an important thing to leave out, now isn't it........

All these hit pieces by CBSNBCABCNYTIMES are making me feel rather sympathetic towards Rudy, and I'm sure I'm not the only parent feeling that way. Doona Vaginaover has had what? 7 or 8 years to brainwash these brats?

Someday those kids will come to their snses, and they will recognize who has really been the better parent.

Funny. Kerry's daughters stood by him even tho he screwed over their mother.

Maybe they cared more about being first daughters than the younger Guiliani cares about being first son.

The MSM loves this story, don't they?
