CHAPEL HILL, N.C. Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards says Jesus would be appalled at how the United States has ignored the plight of the suffering, and that he believes children should have private time to pray at school.
Edwards, in an interview with the Web site Beliefnet.com, said Jesus would be most upset with the selfishness of Americans and the country's willingness to go to war "when it's not necessary."
"I think that Jesus would be disappointed in our ignoring the plight of those around us who are suffering and our focus on our own selfish short-term needs," Edwards told the site. "I think he would be appalled, actually."
Edwards also said he was against teacher-led prayers in public schools, but he added that "allowing time for children to pray for themselves, to themselves, I think is not only OK, I think it's a good thing."
In the interview, the former North Carolina senator discussed how he lost touch with his day-to-day faith during college, but that it "came roaring back" after the death of his 16-year-old son, Wade, in 1996.

Let me guess, he said it with his best rendition of his fake Northern accent.
Now he speaks for Jesus? I may have to reconsider my stand on Coulter's remark.
Edwards reply: "The poor you have always with you, but me, you will not always have with you, so keep sending me the cash & the Breck."
A more appropriate question would be, "Would Jesus wear an Aramani suit & a Rolex while chasing ambulances?"
"Politics is supposed to be the second oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first." RWR
John Edwards epitomizes the politicians of which Reagan spoke in the above quote.
Edwards must have spoken to Jesus right after he made all the paralyzed people walk again.
That's what paddle fish do in the mighty Missouri river.
Could it be?
Well said Ivan.
I'm sure Jesus would approve of the extravagant mansion Edwards just built for himself.
What does he think Jesus would think about Democrats who support partial birth abortions?
Guys, relax...
He was talking about his Salvadoran lawn boy, Jesus.
Can't wait to read the comments.
Verily I say unto you, it would be easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for John Edwards to get 5% of the New Hampshire primary vote in 2008. All who have ears should listen.
Edwards thinks Jesus was a big government socialist like him?
Wow. That Edwards is a real scumbag.
"I think that Jesus would be disappointed in our ignoring the plight of those around us who are suffering"
The government helps the poor. Our charities help the poor. Our churches help the poor. What, exactly, are we supposed to do?
If Edwards really wants to do something he can give all his millions away and be poor like Jesus. Why are liberals generous with everybody else's money (taxes) but their own? And then it turns out when it comes to charitable giving liberals are pikers and conservatives are the generous ones (perhaps because conservatives actually work and have money of their own to give and they also are Christian in their actions). It's easy to be generous with other people's money.
The moron is channeling again.
He speaks as if Jesus is dead. I hope one day soon he realizes He is still alive.
Ironically, Edwards' liberal Dem buddies have made sure that Jesus would be banned in public.
Maybe he could take it up with Walter Cronkite:

US PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE JOHN EDWARDS PAUSES WHILE CAMPAIGNING IN DAVENPORT IOWA
Presidential hopeful John Edwards plays Hardball with Chris Matthews on Tuesday, 3/6. What's his plan to beat Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama? What's his response to Ann Coulter's derogatory comments about him?
Is there anything in particular you want to ask Edwards?
Well, if you're john edwards, you build a 28,000 sq. ft. home with pool/basketball/racquetball courts, then complain about how selfish Americans are.
Makes perfect sense.
